It's a pity because I was really counting on this game to be able to finally experience the thrill of fighting zombies in a videogame.

The new update is close to completion, except it next week..if not then wait!
Also, the next update also might surely fix the piracy issues!

I just realized that the topic title has the word 'realistic' in it.

That next update,0.1.5 is much closer to completion now...It won't fix the piracy issues...darn! It's taking long because theIndieStone is working on the public demo bug fixes AND the 0.1.5 update...

Been following the game since its feature on indie game's blog & releasing it as a full demo was brilliant because the game is fucking sweet. Really recommend it to those seeking a hardcore openworld zombie title, theres a few coming out as well such as Dead State & some team working on a huge world to explore..

you're all delusional and are confusing what you want the game to be like and what it's actually like

^ did you read their devlog? it seems that they have alot to add, and the demo are intentionally buggy. i don't know what you actually hate about the game though.

I don't quite get the hype for this one either.
It's not that I hate it either (since differing opinions must obviously come down to hate), but to me there really isn't anything fun to do. And that's from someone that's interested in urban survival scenarios. I really just don't get the hype. It kinda reminds me of that Skyrim Quakecon Video a couple of days back.

Mainmenu comes up.
Crowd: WOOHOO, YEAH, AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hero draws a sword
Crowd: WOW!!!! YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAW BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!
Me: WTF?!^^

The positive thing about Zomboid is that it made me replay Jagged Alliance 2.

I put up an overview page: The Project Zomboid Compendium

It should help people to get into the game (and the whole PZ experience) and at the same time provide a comprehensive collection of all the modding stuff already out there.

Can't wait for the update coming this weekend! :D

I think the reason there is a lot of hype for this game is that it is promising the game that every fan of zombie films has dreamt of. You're quite right that there's nothing new or exciting to this game mechanically, but thematically this is the zombie game that every fan of the genre wants.

How much have you looked into the game? The OP doesn't do a very good job of selling this game, too much focus on the shotgun and not enough on the survival theme. If this guy i the first you've heard of it, it might be worth giving the demo a play and/or watch someone play a game on youtube.

There are already Urban Dead and Rogue Survivor both of which are pretty good "zombie survival sims".

The problems being: Urban Dead has nearly no graphics. While it's probably still a good game it obviously lacks atmosphere and accessibility. Rogue Survivor on the other hand is quite a lot of fun, but also is rather ugly and being a roguelike in its core the controls are also rather odd to most people.

On top of this I think there will be many features in PZ, none of the existing zombie games can cover. Just have a look here: http://pzwiki.net/wiki/Features

I'll accept rogue survivor, but urban dead is a completely different animal.

I've never played rogue survivor, but it looks pretty awesome. Multiplayer would push it over the top.
