Maybe the release prices of Construct 2 are more reasonable than the price of GameMaker HTML5. http://www.scirra.com/construct2/early-adopterThere are three versions of Construct 2: 1. Free Edition 2. Standard Edition (USD65) 3. Business Edition (USD255) --Most people will need the standard edition. You only need the Business edition if you are an individual who has made over $5,000 USD revenue from things made with Construct 2, or are using Construct 2 in a for-profit organisation. That's the estimated price, currently the with the early adopter prices the standard edition is $32 and the business edition is $169.

What on earth is "'monkey' compiled"? Haha, my made up term? It may be an official term, not sure. You code in monkey, then that exports it to whichever language is supported (C++, C#, Java, Javascript, and ActionScript, apparently) Since it isn't written straight into that language, I'd expect there to be some un-optimized bits, etc. Ahhh okay makes sense now. It made me think of the term "monkey patching," so I had visions in my head of this tool enabling you to write code that does crazy things like hide all of the core Flash utility classes and such. Totally wrong train of thought there lol. (Maybe you can do that actionscript already . . . *shivers*)

Those construct demo's don't look too good. Got a 4fps on the TD one.
Perhaps you are using an Intel display chip on motherboard. Intel display chips is not good for some games. I am using a low-end G210 display card and Ghost Shooter gets 18 frames to 22 frames per second on Chrome.( I press F11 to try this game demo in full screen. )

All the HTML5 games mentioned had frequent lag issues on my computer, and the ones with FPS readouts still claimed 40-60fps when they slowed down and got choppy. I'm also running all this on a geFource GTX 460 on a 3.2ghz 6-core processor. I'm guessing that the real problem here is that these games are being run as part of the entire web browser's process, not a separate one that plugins like Flash and Unity benefit from.

HTML five is not supported the same in all browsers. As far as I know, chrome doesn't even have hardware acceleration enabled by default yet, and surprisingly, IE9 is actually the best.

These HTML5 games sometimes lag on my computer. If the lag problem of HTML5 is not solved, HTML5 will not replace Flash!

They will not sell too many copies of the current HTML5 version because there is no way to make money with HTML5 game. Scirra should make and release other exporters as soon as possible, IOS, Android and SWF! I think that these exporters will help Scirra to make a lot of money.

Despite all the problems I know will be there, and the fact that YYG is fucking weird and dumb when it comes to business, I am still very excited by this whole thing. I'm working pretty steadily on my Game Maker game these days, and my only hesitation with using the software was the fact that it only spits out a Windows executable. I'm looking forward to the possibility of being able to publish on iOS and HTML5.

the problem is that there isn't a single html 5 client like there is a single flash client you can develop to.

I don't like that people are banking so much on HTML 5 when there's so many problems with it. Performance across browsers and systems is too erratic. I'd be interested in Construct 2 if it weren't HTML 5 only. Why put all your eggs in one flimsy, hole-ridden basket?

Construct 2 has been designed so it's not html5 only, they're simply making html5 first. Construct 2 has a modular exporter system to make it easier to write exporters for and to make it so users can even write their own.
They're aware of the demand for a exe export, and have said that they want to make that after the editor and html5 exporter.

I'd prefer to use a game editor that doesn't require me to write my own exporter

Then construct 2 will be perfect for you, because you'll be able to re-use other people's exporters.
