everybody who says it is not a bad game, just a bad diablo game, is objectively wrong.

Well maybe that is a little harsh, but I seriously could not find anything enjoyable about the game from any perspective. It was a facebook game, plain and simple. I was playing farmville. Click the skeleton to kill it, get 2 gold, buy a new club, now tell all your friends! Now you can super click to kill skeletons faster to get more gold faster! Buy from our store with real money!

Is it even possible to take damage in this game? Like, does the health bar serve any purpose? Why can I walk through a group of 20 enemies and not get hit a single time. Why do teleporter enemies teleport directly behind me and then walk away instead of backstabbing me. What use is the wizard's second primary ability, the one that shoots sparks randomly on the ground for a tiny tiny range. Why do I get one skill or rune every several levels and why can't I allocate attribute points?
In diablo 2 I put all my attributes into vitality and maxed out werebear. I was the druid with the most life. I can't do that in diablo 3, all I can do is be the wizard who uses the knockback rune instead of the +20 damage rune or whatever.
Apparently crafted loot is better than looted loot in this one? What's the point of sweet sweet loots if I'm just buying crafted armor from the auction house with my allowance money? Enemies should just drop tokens inscribed with fun words like "disappointment".
Are any of these things just issues with the beta? Is the full game going to be better? Am I gonna need to play through normal and nightmare to get to the fun/challenging difficulty? Will they offer more customizability (seriously, at least let me change the face. I know you can do it, Blizzard. I know you can let me customize my face)

Oh, and let me play without an internet connection.

I played it and greatly enjoyed it.

The removal of mana potions was nice, graphics look good.
In two playthroughs I already saw different stuff. (Jar of Souls even on second playthrough that didn't pop up at all in the first one) I can see some replayability there.

The classes I tried were the wizard and the witch doctor. I generally enjoyed the Witch Doctor more. That "Hands on the ground" skill is reaaaally cool with the "more slow" rune.

I love the spell system from looking at the avaible skills/runes, but right now with access to only one or two (or NO) skills per slot and like 1 rune, the options aren't there yet. I already saw great differences in playstyle between my Witch Doctor and a friend's Witch Doctor though.

Glad they copied the "run over gold to pick it up" mechanic from Torchlight. Makes things way smoother, even though I'm not sure if "bigger pick-up radius for gold" is a worthwhile stat on items, hahahahha.

The only bad thing so far is that I don't really care about the loot that much yet, but after slaying the Beta's boss and finding a YELLOW (or gold?) ITEM I felt SOME of that "Oh boy, loot!". So I'm sure with more stuff, it will still be there.

Looking forward to buying this, but I reaaaaaaaally want PvP. Give me PvP, Blizzard  Beg

Dunno about the loot system, and I played the beta only for a few hours so I won't comment on that, but the difficulty is said to ramp up pretty quickly later on. They even posted this video once called 'you will die' or something, showing players dying horribly to monsters on higher levels. The first half of normal is supposedly a tutorial, so I won't worry about that.

The lack of customisation is truly a downer, there are the passive skills and runes, so I think the skill system itself is better, but the progression model kinda fails if you can't EVER choose the direction of your progression and it's 100% linear.

People are raging over real money auction house way too much. This was always a part of Diablo (and any online RPG for that matter), now they just made it legal. Which means it's easier and safer if you really want to go that way. Plus you can take part in the RMAH without putting a single penny in it: sell something on it, make money, but stuff with it.

And lastly, the game is very pretty and bashing skeletons for loot explosions is super satisfying.

Ya, lets only make the game fun near the end. And make the easymode/tutorial unskippable.

...I seriously could not find anything enjoyable about the game from any perspective.

Diablo 3 in a nutshell.

everybody who says it is not a bad game, just a bad diablo game, is objectively wrong.
Agree.

Is it even possible to take damage in this game? Like, does the health bar serve any purpose? Why can I walk through a group of 20 enemies and not get hit a single time.
It's Blizzard's new feature where they try to save your outside life by making the game easier.
Need to walk that pesky dog? No problemo! Go ahead and do it- these monsters won't scratch your health!
Need to make a sandwich? Get to it, you won't needlessly die just because you suddenly left your machine in the middle of a game. Heaven forbid!
Do you suffer from narcolepsy? Thought were were going to die when you suddenly passed out for 3-4 hours? NOPE!

why can't I allocate attribute points?
Users complained in Diablo 2 that adding attributes themselves required too much effort and time. Users also often didn't know what any of the attributes did. This was a HUGE problem and we fixed it by letting the game do it for you. You no longer will have to worry about CONFUSING and TERRIFYING things like understanding numbers!

In diablo 2 I put all my attributes into vitality and maxed out werebear. I was the druid with the most life. I can't do that in diablo 3, all I can do is be the wizard who uses the knockback rune instead of the +20 damage rune or whatever.
A lot of players were very upset you had more life then them- we felt this was HARDLY fair- we fixed this like in the question above.

Are any of these things just issues with the beta?
No. Look forward to these problems in the real game, only $60 of your hard earned money or only $1035985 for the collectors edition!

Is the full game going to be better?
bad signs:
-Their senior producer left in January.
-They couldn't even get PVP in on time,
-They just realized town portals were a good idea.
-They just realized they made a bunch of other mistakes.

Am I gonna need to play through normal and nightmare to get to the fun/challenging difficulty?
Yup, look forward to taking zero damage from diablo himself while you make a sandwich or watch TV. Don't let things like dying in a videogame distract you from your "real" life!

Will they offer more customizability (seriously, at least let me change the face. I know you can do it, Blizzard. I know you can let me customize my face)
Face changing technology unveiled for Diablo 4 in 2020. Get ready to change your face and your game.

Oh, and let me play without an internet connection.

Never. NEVER. Always have it on we'll drop you like a rock. Did you drop a few packets? Aw too bad.

Eh. It's not a terrible game. Not unless you're a high maintenance indie who only likes works of art.

But it's not great either. Diablo 1 & 2 didn't have a linear intro. They also had widly different characters of the same class by level 6. I played this and it pissed me off that anyone else of the same class was basically identical to me apart from tactical skill.

Looking forward to Torchlight 2 now. Hope they don't fuck up the skill system by following Diablo 3's model.

To be fair, Diablo 2 was also terribly easy until late Nightmare, even played on #players8. I remember running through Normal without even stopping to kill monsters, just to get through it ASAP.

what i dont understand is why a game like diablo needs to be dumbed down "streamlined" in the first place. i seriously doubt that anyone who knows how to use a computer and install a game is dum enough to not understand the first 2 diablos.

i guess the underlying motivation isn't so much "accessibility" as catering to wow players (a lot of whom haven't really played any vidgams other than wow)

Why would they want to make WoW players switch to Diablo 3 though? The same company is developing both of those games, so if someone quits playing WoW to play Diablo 3, it may even be detrimental for Blizzard from an economical perspective (because WoW is subscription-based, so they get more money the longer someone plays).

Actually. Now that you mention this, I imagine they are trying to do the reverse. That some players may find Diablo 3 too shallow and may turn to WoW for a deeper experience.
