I wouldn't say it was better because I got attached to my character more. I would say I prefer Diablo 2's systems because the choices I made were mine. Who cares if maxing out Find Potion or whatever that barbarian skill was and intelligence wasn't a viable build - at least I could do it, and have a hell of a fun time struggling against impossible odds with my shitty goofball build. I guess it is a shitty reason to prefer something, but it still irks me that agreed. when i have all the options available at all times it doesn't feel like i'm making my own character (not to mention the progression is completely linear from what i know). might as well call assigning items to buttons in zelda "customization."

See WoW talent tree revamp and debacle.
I'd argue that the WoW talent system has been getting better and better with each revamp. END OF OFF-TOPIC Investing the numerous hours needed to get a character to maximum level makes me invested enough already. I don't really need the "extra investment" from losing stuff on death or permanent decisions. And the entire "at least the decisions were my own" point is also really iffy. D2 was so played to death that every conceivable build had been done before and judged / explained on FAQ sites. Yes, you can invest these points however you want. You can check now how fucked you will be later, or you can invest 20 more hours before you realize it yourself.

Let not forget that, at least the wizard has got the following skills:
Primary (4) Secondary (4) Defensive (4) Force (5) Conjuration (5) Mastery (3) Passives (15) Considering each has around 5 runes, you have got around the following number of combinations:
(4x5) x (4x5) x (4x5) x (5x5) x (5x5) x (3x5) x (15) = 1,125,000,000 combinations (asssuming i dont suck at math).
If Hell and Inferno are as difficult as they pretend them to be, having to build a given combination (in addition to equipment) for a given scenario will still be quite a challenge.

Yeah, the more I look at the skill progression pages on the Diablo 3 site, the more I begin to think that building a character for Hell won't be as simple as I thought.
I'm not sure if it was a good idea to make only the most dull and easy part of the game playable in beta though. I realize that they wanted to keep some surprises for the official release, but what really happened here is that anyone who tried the beta got the impression that the game is crap. Also, it kind of ruins the purpose of beta testing when you can't actually test if all the things are working.

If you cared to read, I don' know, for example, the Diablo 3 site, the Diablo 3 launcher, Blizzard's or Diablo's twitter you would know that public weekend beta, was a SERVER STRESS TEST. They wasn't testing anything about the game, they were stress testing the servers, to be able to cope with all pre-purchase traffics during launch.

No one was talking about the public weekend beta.

Their current talking point is "If everything is balanced to be capable, why does it matter what I select, I'm just going to click randomly and nothing matters"
They literally can't imagine a game being fun without being able to feel superior to others via game knowledge, it's so fun to watch.

http://youtu.be/3RZ2pRgT5O4“-The real adventure starts in Nightmare difficulty? -Yes” They keep promoting the later difficulties as being where the real game is, so why did they even include "normal" then?

Go on You are standing in front of a television screen. there is a red button in front of you. if you press the button, the screen flashes once. That is Diablo 3. That is the game. That is why people literally cannot imagine it to be fun.
