So... any ideas when the reviews of this game are gonna start popping up, thereby allowing me to make an informed decision as to whether it's worth my 60 EUR? Metacritic gives me nothing at the moment.
i can already tell you that this is going to get tons of 90+ reviews and not because i think it's so good. edit: lol the metacritic user score is something like 3.0.

I started getting my ass kicked by those leaping things when I got into the field past the beta. Pretty much what kicked my ass in D2. That's the trouble with playing a glass cannon I guess, but I'll be damned if I'm walking over to a barrel to check what's in it.
really? im at the drowned temple and haven't even got close to dying yet (playing barb). I teamed up with a Wiz around that bit. He kept dying until I told him about elective mode and using the frost circle thing to get some distance. I think the melee characters in this iteration have been skewed to cope with close combat unlike the old games. Some monsters in D2 were suicide to get close to.

This illustrates why I'm often reluctant to listen to common gamer opinions. A lot of people get hung up on some detail (like the lack of an offline play option) and then decide that the entire game is shit because of it. Not saying that critic reviews are perfect, but they generally look at the big picture. I just bought Bastion on sale so I'm not really in a hurry to play Diablo 3 or anything. I'm planning to wait at least two more weeks and then compare critic reviews to recent user reviews and make a decision.

Diablo 3 is a lot more about spectacle and smooth play than Diablo 1 or 2 is. It removed a lot of the customization in attributes and skill trees, but it retains a lot as well by essentially making you able to equip any 6 skills from your entire set (and one passive change to each skill!) to any button. It removes a lot of risk of choosing a bad build, since a bad build might just mean you die once and you change instead of struggling through because you specced into something worthless like a moron.
Basically, if you have a terrible skill build and die or do really poorly, you can just alter and experiment instead of getting wrecked.
I'm enjoying it greatly, mainly because I'm playing it with a friend and we giggle like dumb kids at every decapitation and bloodsplosion.
Oh and so far the story has been alright. Nothing really revolutionary but not WoW either. It feels distinctly Diablo, and that's enough for me. Also they bring th Butcher from the first game back which makes me real happy.
Also please, please, PLEASE DON'T START TALKING ABOUT SKINNER BOXES AGAIN. NOBODY CARES. YOUR LIFE IS A SKINNER BOX.

im enjoying it too but its nowhere close to d2
and before anyone says anything anything about "hurr hurr nostalgia" i mean that in the context the time they were released in. diablo 2 was a better game for 2000 than diablo 3 is for 2012

Such is the fate of sequels, especially by the third.

I'm really enjoying the game so far. I'm playing it as 'single-player' right now, checking every nook and cranny for lores, enjoying interesting conversations between main character and followers etc. I still can't decide on my 'main', so I will probably go through Act I with all 5 and see which one fits me the best. It's a great sequel, fixes most of D2 problems, adds juicy graphics and a lot of polish, I already know that the money was spent well and it will serve me hours of fun just going through Normal with every character, not even talking about multiplayer endgame, up-coming PvP or playing hardcore.
One of the best thing in D3 is that all classes seem interesting, thanks to the new skill system. In D2 there were like 2 best skills per class that worked (other were not viable for higher difficulties) and you used them for all acts, all dificulties, just getting higher damage through synergies and items. In D3, just reaching lvl 15 with Demon Hunter, I already get like 3 vast distinct playing styles (each equally viable) just changing the skills. I imagine higher level bringing even more variety. And people complain that there is a lack of customizing...

So if the DRM doesn't prevent PIRATES from playing, but it prevents paying customers from playing that just bothers me.

Requirement to have internet connection to play multiplayer game is not DRM.

To be fair, it's pretty much the only way to create a game economy in which duping is severely curtailed. And yeah, some people care about the game economy a lot, so it's important for Blizzard to address that.
