another way would be, as has been suggested 50 million times already, to not let you take your offline characters online (which d2 already does) and not allow them to use items bought from the auction house.

Seriously DRM like this is kinda dumb, because OH LOOK a crack/torrrent/download is already up and from the user comments they say it works.
So if the DRM doesn't prevent PIRATES from playing, but it prevents paying customers from playing that just bothers me.
Requirement to have internet connection to play multiplayer game is not DRM. oh yeah, but to play single player d3 you need connection

otoh though, im impressed by how smoothly this game runs on my computer (2010 macbook pro). i get a constant 60 fps and no loading times aside from the initial one on max settings. i wonder if that has something to do with them handling shit serverside.
also i think i already said this but diablo only really shines in coop anyway so im not like mad or anything that there isnt an offline mode but it'd be a nice thing to have for when i have no internet available.

The thing is that (theoretically) there is no single player mode and they didn't want server logic in game to prevent hackers easily figuring out ways to dupe items and destroy economy (which is important when you make real-money trades). But, if the cracked version work offline, it turns out it was PR bullshit and server logic is already in-game. Also servers where dead for few hours, because of the huge amount of people trying to log-in at launch, so it's not 'DRM that doesn't let paying players play', it works completely OK now and I suspect there will be little to no downtimes (except for patch maintenances). I still don't understand all the drama.

Just got kicked out of my single player game... after having problems with lag, in a single player game. Thanks Blizzard! Also, it seems to me that the game doesn't save the areas you played cause I'm always starting with an empty map. It's kinda cool cause then I always have a new place to explore and more monsters to get XP, but feels weird to have the world changing all the time. Not to mention I was just finishing a quest when I got kicked out. Came back and I was at the beginning of the map with no idea of where the quest is now.

you all paid them $60 after reading about all of the problems they're having with the launch / the problems that could happen from single player with always online drm. your complaints lose most of their value after that point.
note that i'm not saying they're not legitimate complaints. it just continually surprises me that nerds have such low amounts of willpower that they can't keep themselves from buying games that do things they have a problem with.

Interview with Jay Wilson: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/170258/the_devils_workshop_an_interview_.phpDid Diablo III have an official design document?
JW: No, not really. I certainly had a PowerPoint that I put together, which described high-level pillars of the project, and was seven things that we considered to be the core of the game.
Do you remember what those were?
JW: Those seven things were: approachable, powerful heroes, highly customizable, great item game, endlessly replayable, strong setting, and cooperative multiplayer. The whole interview's worth a read if you're interested in how they designed the game.

Oh, I'm more just sore from pure single player games getting the same always online treatment. only to be hacked anyways, so the point of the DRM is only to be a pain to paying customers? I didn't know you could take single player stuff and bring in online! That seems okay then in my eyes

but what if you pre-ordered i mean, i think it's a fair assessment to say that Diablo 3 has had a shitty launch, especially since Starcraft 2's wasn't bad.

it's pretty rare that any mmo / always online thing doesn't have launch issues. and if you can't stand waiting 3-5 more days to play your videogame, you have other issues.

I still think you guys confuse stuff. There is no single player mode in the game, everything is online, you can have a 'private room' but it's still online, your friends can join you anytime they want, you can buy and sell in auction house and you will be able to participate in PvP once it's added. Like in for example Vindictus you can go to the instance dungeon alone, but that doesn't make the game single player, even though it has storyline, quests and most of the content is beatable solo. Nobody whines that Nexon require internet connection to play Vindictus, why whine about Blizzard? They stated countless times that the game is multiplayer game and is meant to play that way and that they won't include single player mode.

Yeah, and the fact that there isn't is shit. Still having a fair bit of fun, but when my flatmate gets back off holiday and starts torrenting on his own internet connection (and I can't set one up myself whilst I'm living in his house) then the fun is going to stop. Still. Torchlight 2 eh?

Still. Torchlight 2 eh? Yep, lack of single player is valid complaint, not throwing standard DRM-whine around cause it's hip But that doesn't change the fact that it's a great, enjoyable, online game. And first Torchlight was much worse than D2 or Titan Quest, I don't expect Torchlight 2 to be any better. They could get some sales if they released before D3, now they are doomed.
