I just finished the first season of Ultimate Survivor Kaiji. Damn good and intense. Somebody else should watch it so I have somebody to talk to about it.

Haven't watched it yet but the manga itself is already damn intense! The author really know how to build up tension and push it to the limit before he allow the protagonist to taste the wonderful victory. I remembered reading the final chapter of the second arc ( the pachinko arc, I think) while listening to the final boss theme of Touhou Ten Desire. Man, that was something.

Ooh, man, it's true. Especially when I was watching the E-Card story, I couldn't believe I was so intensely focused on two people playing a card game. But... it makes sense, really. The rules for the game were incredibly simple, but that was meant to put more focus on the psychological aspect, and Kaiji's all about head games.

I think i would have enjoyed Kaiji more if he wasn't so annoying as a character, he often got pushed to the edge to have a revelation which would then be repeated come the next trial.

I found One outs, Liar game and Akagi more interesting, for no real objective reasons of quality, i just prefer those more self assured characters.

In a way Liar game is a more elaborate version of Kaiji with intricately thought out games and crazy manilpulation of people. Its great when a plan comes together.

It's called The Sacred Star of Milos! It takes place after Brotherhood, I believe.

I've seen the one that was released shortly after the original anime. It wasn't really good
The ova's are pretty decent though (1 of them is garuanteed to give you the creeps aswell).

i really loved the first arc of kaiji, but once they started doing the physical trials and e-card it felt a little silly to me. i dunno, but i pretty much gave up when sahara died in the stupidest way possible
