read the first few chapters of gantz

this is a story wherein the basic premise is "how much more gratuitously violent can we make this"

gantz is hilarious in how over the top is. but the main character gets notable development despite all. the fights get muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch longer however to the point of exhaustion. but hey, there are new strips still getting published

i kind of like that when a character cries it feels genuine how messy they look rather thsn just anime tears.

Watched the first hour of Redline last night; couldn't finish because it was almost 4 AM and I was starting to pass out. What I saw so far was pretty incredible; I really like the art style and animation. The show's attitude is genuinely cool without feeling too forced or over-the-top. There's a lot of factions who are plotting against each other, and tons of interesting races, as in species, but the driving races are cool, too. It's hard to watch subtitled because I felt torn between wanting to keep up with what was being said, but also not wanting to tear my eyes away from the visuals. I wouldn't risk watching it dubbed, though; I think that's why I didn't like Cowboy Bebop.

Anyways, I'm planning on finishing it tonight probably. Anything else that's new and this fresh?

That seems to be the hardest thing about watching anime for me.  Admittedly I thought Cowboy Bebop had pretty quality dubbing for anime, though.

This is currently why it's so tough for me to watch The Tatami Galaxy.  There's so much to see and the subtitles are so fast!

I think the majority of my entertainment-media-related problems would be solved by knowing Japanese.

Redline is fantastic.  It becomes amazingly ridiculous by the end.

Sounds good. I was actually thinking of learning it w/ my girlfriend, though I'm not sure she has any use for it; it might be fun. I'd be happy to have people to practice it with, though... I've studied it twice in the past but never retained the knowledge because it wasn't being applied regularly.

Dou itashi mashite?

I think this is a problem many of us make. Self included, although I only took one year of conversational, which is usually refreshed by occasional exposure to good anime and regular exposure to fighting games.

I really liked the anime sequence in Kill Bill Vol 1. The warped perspectives, the camera angles, the exaggerated motions... really well done. I also really liked how everything was 'sketchy'.

I think the same production company did the music video for 'Breaking the Habit'.

Interestingly, Another has become one of the most enjoyable shows of the season - not because it's good (it isn't) - but the fanbase makes it fun. Now if only it would actually turn into the romantic comedy with gore that everyone wants.

Man that movie was so much more interesting than The Matrix.

I was kind of pissed that "The Second Renaissance: Part 2" was basically just a war movie.  I know that was the point, I just thought it was so much less interesting than the first part.

Beyond has always been my favorite short in the Animatrix.
