I wouldn't say it's bombed, there's always been trash mixed in with good production. The problem, at least to an extent, is market saturation toward an otherwise small set of audiences in my opinion. When an anime is made, they know exactly who they're trying to appeal to, there's no real innovation or risk-taking. When there is (see: YuriKuma Arashi which aired last year), good writing and artistic production ends up finding an even smaller niche and then completely flopping in the mainstream. |
