RE: Miyazaki - I just started thing lame thing I am doing where I watch one Miyazaki and/or Ghibli film a month (I am calling it "A Miyazaki a Month") and write about it. I am starting with the Castle of Cagliostro. I started it today, and I am really enjoying it. I used to watch Lupin when I was younger, so it's kind of awesome to be watching it.

Those two and Nausicaa are my favorites. I shat my pants when I saw the comic he drew in college, it made my hands weep for their comparative inadequacy.
I just finished PSG and... well, yeah. That was certainly a thing. Great action scenes and some damn catchy music, plus some interesting theming going on with the whole concept of impulse vs. control. Nothing spectacularly deep, at least it doesn't seem like it, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I was recommended the manga a few times before, I hear its something else! have to remember to look for it. I remember my brother shocked I hadn't seen Mononoke, so he pulled out a cassette from him collection and sat me in front of the screen. turned out to be one of my favorites too.

The Nausicaa manga is far superior to the film, imo. It's more detailed, more intricate, and much darker. It was an epic, in the traditional sense of the noun.
