Hello all and welcome! My name is Houndninja and I'm here to represent my first official game Searchand my indie game dev team: Doc and Dog which consits of me a progammer, artist and musician (if thats what you'd call it) and my friend TheDoctor! An artist and musician. This is the Devlog for our first ever game: Search a 2D cover based shooter with the option to dig holes in certain parts of the ground. The game runs on an engine I am progamming myself called the Thing engine. What i'm aiming for here is a 2D Gears of War, minus the story of locust killing. So for my first post I'm gonna cover the basic aspects of the story and gameplay..

Story
Imagine if you had the perfect life.. Nice house, beatiful wife and the most amazing daughter in the world, thats what our hero (if you can call him that) had.. Untill it was ripped away from him in a blaze, he wakes up into the real world. Finding everything was just a lie, a virtual reality created by the government.. But why? follow our hero and aid him on his search for just who he really is... help our hero in his revenge against the bastards who did this to him..
Gameplay
Search is a cover based action-adventure shooter, imagine Gears of War but in 2D. Got that image? If you do tophat smiley approves  Gentleman But sometimes there will be just too many enemies, or maybe a real big enemy, that has enclave armour from Fallout!
 Lips Sealed (your right probaly not..) But when these enemies are just two tough there will always be another way.. What way is this? Digging of course!  Epileptic I know sounds awesome doesnt it! dig under enemies and sneak away watch out for mines and traps! Or maybe set some traps of your own! More will be revealed!


--UPDATE--
Some sneak peek pics of character sketches, not much but I'm just keeping you guys interested! Also the game engine is running smoothly and I'm working on some awesome
gravity effects and ammo.

Sounds cool, ill be interested in seeing some screenies :D

Also what you coding the engine with?

Interesting idea, I can see potential with swimming (breath holding!), vent-crawling, and a lot of things that you can factor into level design. Curious, are you going for more of a top-down/bird's eye perspective with 4/8-way movement, or a sidescroller?

I'm coding the engine with Game makers GML, but currently I'm learning java
I'll post some screenies soon! along with character models and such.
