screw the tutorial just jump right in

yeah the interface is a bit of a problem. the author even admitted that in the roguelike radio interview. he modeled it after nethack (which has one of the worst interfaces in roguelike history) because thats the only rl he knew well when he started. the game is still early in development though so a lot can and probably will change.

Yeah definitely skip the tutorial.  It makes no sense.  Anyway, what kind of characters are you guys trying to play? I tried to play more of a stealthy/quick style but I got frustrated at how little I could carry.

the game crashed when i got the random implants traits and checked them out so i dont really want to play it again. it was fun to rummage in houses though!

the game's viewscreen is so cramped it makes me feel claustrophobic
and you dont really know where to go to accomplish anything

And I definitely have to agree with The Monster King that the game does sort of lack a purpose, but I'll cut it slack cause it is so early in development.

there's a blinking red asterisk on your map screen (press m) that's where your quest goal is.

the npcs quests are pretty much testing content at this point though so don't bother doing them (actually there's just one npc and one quest). there are no set goals other than survival atm.

just as a reminder (for you and others itt): this is in early alpha stage right now so if you're going in expecting a "polished experience" you'll probably be disappointed. you have to have some tolerance for playing a game thats still in development to appreciate cataclysm.

you can just nag him (with the "give me some stuff" dialog option) to give you everything he has lol

people in this game sure are pushovers
