The Document is now complete! Links below

The finished story is quite long, and as such cannot be reproduced in a forum thread. As such, you will have to download and read the story yourself. There are several formats to choose from:

Here is a .DOC file

and a .PDF suitable for printing for later perusal.

An EPUB is also available for those of you with Kindles or other such devices.

This has been fun, and taken longer than expected (it always does); please leave feedback in the thread!

ORIGINAL POST PRESERVED FOR POSTERITY

I'll keep track here and in the thread when people pass their messages about, but it should be able to proceed without my input. If it gets hung up at some point I will intervene. Otherwise, let's just see what happens!

It's been a while since we've had  one  of  these.

What is an Exquisite Corpse? Let's let Wikipedia explain:

"Exquisite corpse, also known as exquisite cadaver (from the original French term cadavre exquis) or rotating corpse, is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule (e.g. "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun") or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed."

We had a lot of fun with these back in the day, and I feel it is high time for another.

Together we will construct a tale of glorious and scintillating brilliance! No writing ability is required, just the responsibility to fulfill your obligations. Each writer will, in turn, write a short section of prose -- no more than a paragraph -- and send his contribution alone to both myself, as administrator, and to the next writer! Thus, each section will follow from the previous, but not necessarily from, you know, anything that came before. You'll get, say, three days to write your section and pass it on.

The rules are simple, as I've said. Depending on how many people want to do this we may have to go around a second time -- let's take that as it comes. Anyone interested? Just post below in red to signify your acquiescence!

I'm interested in taking part.

I haven't done this is a very long time, except we played the simplified shorter version with sentences and a folded piece of paper.

Is there an upper word limit going to be instated? Say 100 or so words maximum?

I'm glad to see so much interest! I was thinking around 20 people would be enough, if we manage to get to that many; any opinions on the matter?

Beyond that it becomes rather difficult to manage.
