A conversion of Canabalt on the old 8-Bit Commodore 64?  Officially approved by Adam Atomic?  Planned for release at the end of the year as a free download and a real, physical 16KB cartridge?  Oh yes please, I'll have some of that!

http://www.rgcd.co.uk/2011/12/c64anabalt-c64-2011.html (news post)

This is being coded by Paul Koller (Paulko64), the same guy who has been working on a C64 port of VVVVVV (http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=94672 - again, officially approved).  Obviously it isn't finished yet... IT IS NOW.

I'm dead excited about being involved in this project Smiley

I do, and although I don't know much about that thing, but making a game like this is really hard (I think).

There is a Flash version of the C64 online. http://codeazur.com.br/stuff/fc64_final/
So with that, you could play a commodore version of a flash game on a flash version of a commodore.

Does anyone have a C64?! Big Laff

You should check the Commodore Scene Database at http://noname.c64.org/csdb/; there are hundreds of active users and new releases almost every day Smiley

The Guinness Book of World Records lists the Commodore 64 as the best-selling computer model of all time: Sales estimates range from 17 million to 30 million units worldwide in the years between its splashy introduction in 1982 and its reluctant end in 1994.  And yeah, a few people still have them. Wink

For a retro machine, the C64 has a very active scene, and is a great machine for gamers and hobbyists. Hand Any KeySmileyHand Joystick

Canabalt in 16KB running on 1MHz? That's really impressive. Makes me miss my C64. I would have played the hell out of this cartridge as a kid.

I don't know if you meant it to be, but that smiley comes of as a bit patronizing.

Anyway, C64s were popular in the 80s. It's legitimate to wonder if many are still around.

I wasn't meaning to be patronising at all.  Sorry about that.  I suppose that I'm so used to seeing C64's in active use (me, my brother and many of my friends have them) on an every day basis that your comment made me laugh.

I'm not sure how many are in use today, but judging by the hundreds of SD/USB based emulated drive units this guy has sold (http://www.1541ultimate.net/content/) at over 100 euros each(!), I'd guess that there are a fair few still out there.

It's a very popular retro computer.

And, it is now finally available to buy from http://www.rgcd.co.uk Smiley

For people who don't know how to use C64 emulators, there's a simple embedded Win32 'double-click here to start' version as well Smiley http://downloads.rgcd.co.uk/games/c64anabalt/c64anabaltwin32.zip
