Tales of the Renegade Sector

I am announcing the launch of my new site renegadesector.com, an episodic webgame series.

Tales of the Renegade Sector is a new series of episodic action-adventure web-games in a science fiction setting.  In a region of space uncontrolled by the planetary alliance, space pirates and other roguish characters roam free.  Play as the members of Captain Jack McCallery's space pirate crew.  Episodes will alternate focus between multiple characters including weaponsmaster Mark Two-Blasters and the Captain himself.

Explore alien planets!
Fight alien monsters!
Seek alien riches!

Tales of the Renegade Sector!

oh wait what is this.

I have to say the site is kind of a mess visually. Although the blog format is fine perhaps you should have a separate page that lists the games (and future games) in a chronological list instead of having to go through the blog itself.

When I click Most Recent Episode nothing happens? But your link above works just fine.

This is pretty cool, I always liked the series. They seem fun to make as well.

Few gripes about the game, the health bar was way too large. And the game was mostly combat filler. I got tired of shooting the mindless enemies after awhile and just ran around until I found the red key card. And the music loop was a bit too short, got annoying after awhile.

I can see where you are going with this and it's pretty cool.

(oh god I just refreshed the page and it's gone. did I just time travel to the past/future and played your game?)

Sorry, doing a bunch of work on the site right now, and I am a terrible web designer, so it's in flux.  Should be stable shortly.

EDIT:  The site now has the most recent episode at the top of the front page, and a page with an episode list.  It's not perfect, but it'll do for now.

Also, thanks for the feedback.  The first episode is fairly combat heavy, but later episodes will be less so (episode 2 will actually have no combat).
Also got rid of those damn pre-loader ads (at least for when the game is played from my own site.)

I enjoyed this one more than the first one oddly enough. I liked the little bits of info it gave and hinted at. for some reason I was reminded of Chrono Trigger..my memory fails me at why though.

Thanks.  Any comparison to Chrono Trigger, even an unspecific one, is high praise!   Beer!

Information update for anyone curious.  Episode 3 is mostly finished, and will be released next week on schedule once it's been properly tested (I try to get episodes done in advanced, both to have a buffer, and since games need to be tested).  Work is now starting on Episode 4, which will wrap up the first story arc.  I'm also planning on posting Episodes 2 and 3 of Space Captain McCallery to the site, with story summaries, like I did Episode 1.

Another episode up: http://renegadesector.com/

In this episode, you finally get back into the shoes of The Captain as he explores the inside of the Turquoise Temple.

well done. although I avoided the combat in the first episode like the plague, I found combat more interesting in this one with the addition of the rock. It made combat a little more challenging and rewarding, clearly a whole room with a single rock. Oh, and funny.

and it's nice to re-acquaint myself with the Captain and his curious predilection to alien 'delicacies'  Cool

And, with that, the first story arc is completed.

Play episode 4 here:  http://renegadesector.com/?page_id=151.

I got a lot of work done on the second story arc at TIGJam, so there's not going to be a beak between arcs this time, meaning Episode 5 will come out next week.  I've got a lot of cool improvements in the next story arc, including some cool visual effects.

So you know what you have to look forward to:

Episode 5 is now released!  This also marks the beginning of the second story arc.

Villagers have started disappearing from a alien forest village, and it's up to the Captain to get to the bottom of it.

Wow, I think it's unfair that you get so little attention for all your work Sad
I gave it ago (ep.Cool and I've got to say that it isn't bad! The world seems kind of void, and I generally don't like using the mouse for games like these, but gameplay is smooth and the graphics are comprehensible  Grin Hand Thumbs Up Right
Had there only been a bit more interaction, and some more variation in the tiles and enemy types, this could get really good! Keep up the good work! Grin

Thanks, I'm going to try to put more variety in future story arcs. I'm currently working on my base code to standardize a lot of elements of the game, as well as add in a bunch of new objects that I can use to make puzzles and set-pieces.

For those who didn't see it on the site, the series is going to take a break after the next episode, and come back in January, when I'll have the new and improved engine to work off of.

Alright, this is the last episode before I go on break for December.  The Captain battles the Queen of the Spidrin, in the heart of her lair.
