RobotJunk Gunners

RobotJunk Gunners is a Run and Gun game, mixing shmups and platformers (in the sense of being the shooting part a lot more important than the platforming part). It is heavily inspired in games like Contra (specially Hard Corps), Gunstar Heroes, Metal Slug, and other bunch of arcade games.

The game is being designed for 1 por 2 players. The second player can join the game whenever he wants (like those old arcade games!).

The game is still on a early stage, but I have come with some features:

  • 1-2 players.
  • Movement and shooting (includes dashing too).
  • Various popcorn enemies.
  • Camera system.
  • Two minibosses.
  • Different weapons. Pickable weapons.
  • Floating tooltips ("Go!", "Caution!"...)

You can watch a (a bit old) video showing the game's progress:

Screens!
(Because I heard you guys love screens)

That's all for now! I'll use this devlog to post updates and screenshots as I progress on the game. I will be updating my blog and my twitter account, too!

Looks cool! The action looks like a lot of fun, I especially like the tower boss. Just a thought on the art: it appears to me as slightly strange that it's set in a happy mario-like world, and everyone has this grim expression on their faces. Maybe you could make the environments more gritty, if that's the style you're going for, or drop the frowns and give the characters more blank expressions?

Thanks JLJac. Well, you are right about the mood of the characters, but I like the way it is right now. However, the art is susceptible of changes, I think the level doesn't fit well with the characters and enemies, so it will be surely changed. The level that I'm showing here is just a test, I don't really want a Jungle-theme based (or at least, not so Sonic-esque and more swampy).

I'm working right now on the characters' hit & dead states. It is semi-finished but I still want to tweak some things about it. I'm sketching the levels and organizing them too.
