I see you're using xy image scaling to good use with hit animations and vegetations. Looking great.

HD Moonman:

HD, but there's not even a single curve. Basically you're thinking of high definition pixels.  Grin

Yes that's mine and Siskavard's awesome art collab, don't you just heart it?!

Update: Well I've been on a little break, getting some rest from the dev, doing lots of pixel art with @Pixel_Dailies, and doing some other gamedev stuff, but now I'm getting back into it. I'm planning on running a Kickstarter very soon, and so I'm just cleaning up some bits and pieces so the stuff I have to show is decent enough. My goal is to get enough funding so I can focus 100% of my time on MM and finish it within a year, additional funding on top of that would go towards contracting some of the artwork and animation.

I'm currently having another look at the backgrounds and sky colours etc, as I haven't been too happy with them, especially the forest level. (ffs my next game will be 8 colours only, I hate this endless colour work..). So here's the new forest level art direction, those are bushes/hills in the background (wip), and the moon (wip) will be a pale bluish and as you can see is quite a lot bigger now. Other adjustments, like tinting things a little bluish will round off that level, and then the other ones will get done. Something I'm doing with the background is trying to make it less distracting by reducing the contrast, making it more homogenous (wrt detail), tinting it with the sky colour, and lowering it.

I'm sure Soundgarden did a song about this game...

Quote from: Chris Cornell
Feel the rhythm with your hands
Steal the rhythm while you can, moonman
Speak the rhythm on your own
Speak the rhythm all alone, moonman

Moonman, come together with your hands
Save me, I'm together with your plan
Save me

All my friends are Indians
All my friends are brown and red, moonman
All my friends are skeletons
They beat the rhythm with their bones, moonman

Feel the rhythm with your hands
Steal the rhythm while you can, moonman

I'll be backing this Smiley

What can I say? TLDR! If you're doing a Kickstarter you should get an 8-bit cover-song for your promo video Smiley

Is that still a meme? Look back 20 pages or so for the discussion about why I broke the pixel alignment, cheers.

gotta say im a little tired of people being pedantic about pixel art rules, especially when the results actually look really good.

You're kinda persistent to keep doing this game after so many years. Nice attitude. Keep it up Hand Thumbs Up Left

I wouldn't be able to do that for this long myself.

kamac - Oh, it hasn't been that long has it? Maybe 18 months total dev time, which is probably the average for a lot of games? The good thing is that most of the technical problems have been solved, and now it's more or less a matter of designing the rest of the enemies, npcs, items, and developing the world generation algos. My main regrets are that I didn't take more shortcuts, e.g., I should have used flash/blender/spriter or some other tool to do my sprite animation instead of developing my own (which will be updated and publicly available soon!). I also spent too much time changing the art style, and now I realise that I should have finished MM in the original art style and brought any changes I wanted to do into my next game. But you live and learn..

Blambo - Generally I prefer people pointing out the janky things, and in this case I agree it looks garbage in a static screenshot when zoomed out that far. But in motion and at the standard zoom level you don't even notice it. I also break pixel alignment in other places .. e.g., the plants rotate slightly. I'd prefer people to do it a little less obnoxiously, but I can't have everything. Smiley
