I personally feel 2 fits the rest of the game better.

I like 3 the best I think but I don't think there's one stand out winner.

I agree, since everything else seems to be simple and clean, I vote 2.

I also think 3 is the most interesting; also cool game, looking forward to seeing more.  Wink

Thanks for the help, guys!
Compromise, maybe?

Yes? No? Stick with the others?

That is a great compromise. Golden Mean Fallacy saves us again!

I don't understand why Tetris is going on in the background.

You've pretty much nailed the controls, though I feel as if the terminal velocity is a little high for an underwater game.

Belimoth what is your problem with tetris, tetris is cool.
I might slow down the level that the jellyfish falls at, but I fear that might be tedious.
Also:
Code:
<Ashkin>    Mounting and dismounting jellyfish yeeeaaaaah
<Ashkin> I made the player fall faster than the jellyfish.
<Ashkin> You know, just because it's cool to lose your jellyfish off a cliff and then plummet off after it, barely mounting it before you hit the ground and then pulling up and away from death
<Ashkin> This is the kind of game design choices I like making.
<PleasingFungus> How are you falling to your death underwater?
<PleasingFungus> Or is this a flying jellyfish?
<Belimoth> that's not important

<Ashkin> Pleasingfungus
<Ashkin> You are a cowboy
<Ashkin> Cowboys wear spurred boots
<Belimoth> cool moves are important
<Ashkin> Spurred boots have metal
<Ashkin> Which is heavy
<Ashkin> Which makes you sink
<Ashkin> Therefore logic
So yeah, jellyfish riding is in, though it needs a little tweaking.

END OF DAY THREE
Today's accomplishments:
Jellyfish mounting/dismounting
A second layer of background tiles for more depth
Realization that this would not be finished in time for the competition, with only about five hours maximum coding per day * six days = 30 hours, who knows

Tomorrow's goals:
A whistle that you can blow to help herd jellyfish
Untamed jellyfish with AI

SIX DAYS REMAIN

(Late) END OF DAY FOUR
Today's accomplishments:
A whistle.
Worked on making jellyfish react. Failed at vector maths.

(Less than) FIVE DAYS REMAIN

END OF DAY FIVE
Today's accomplishments:
Gave up on vector maths (I don't even know if that's the right word)
FOUR DAYS REMAIN

Focus on the simpler things in life.
Such as currents.
Who needs complex jellyfish AI code?
Why would a jellyfish ever be... complex?
They float up.... they drift back down...
Then just add some random and weird underwater currents to push then around so you have to chase them and such and bam! Jellyfish Wranglin' with difficulty.

Seriously though, jellyfish are my favorite simply because they are so simple...
Very few needs.. just drift along...

Well, the thing is, I want them to run away from the player when he blows the whistle so that you can actually herd them. Perhaps the system I have in mind is too complex. Perhaps I should simplify it? Find jellyfish -> Chase jellyfish -> Tame jellyfish -> Profit?

END OF DAY SIX
Today's accomplishments:
Got jellyfish herding working
Added rudimentary fence-building (still need to work on the guts of it)

Tomorrow's Goals:
Improve jellyfish AI (wandering, floating around, interaction?)
Finish fences

THREE DAYS REMAIN
(I updated the OP with a new demo. WASD to move, space to whistle, S to mount jellyfish.)
(Feedback on the background scenery, jellyfish handling, player handling, fence-building, etc. would be great if you have the time.)
