After upgrading my drivers and setting up a custom config file, I got the game to run without any texture popping.
I'm about 2 hours in and loving it so far. It reminds me a lot of Borderlands, but with vastly superior visuals and gameplay. The combat is very fluid, and enemies are pretty dynamic as far as shooters go. Interface is a pain due to mouse lag, but luckily you don't need it too much.

I'm having trouble enjoying the game.
it's pretty, and the shooting is fun. but I don't get the point. I've already played Borderlands and Fallout: New Vegas and BioShock (some of the mutants and their behaviours in rage remind me of splicers). while the game is different, for the most part it just seems like more of the same.
had it came out before those games I would probably have a different attitude but it just feels like I've already played this game five times before. I dunno, I'll keep playing for a few more hours but if doesn't get any better I'm moving on.

I'm having a blast with it (and it runs great on the PS3). Once you get the majority of your weapon selection and a nicely upgraded ride there is a lot to do. It reminds me more of Beyond Good and Evil than Fallout 3 or Borderlands, at least in the sense that there is nothing really new or revolutionary in the game (outside of the graphics) but it is composed of a lot of different familiar things done exceptionally well.
Once you do a few missions in Wellspring the real charm of the game comes into play. NPCs are constantly commenting on things you've done, there are all sorts of fun little mini games to play, Twisted Metal/Mario Kart styled races to win (which upgrades applying to cruising the wasteland as well), etc.
It takes a while for the ball to get rolling in the game but once it does it is a lot of fun (I think so, at least).

yeah from what I'm hearing the console versions run well. I can't keep the game from crashing constantly so I find it hard to enjoy.
the shooting parts are fun and it really ruins the immersion when I suddenly crash while doing things.

apparently there's a patch now that allows you to fix the settings for your computer, released alongside some excuses from carmack re the pc issues: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/10/09/rage-patch/

Carmack said that they don't really care about PC anymore because consoles are where the money is. There was a time they were innovators, using the best platform and pushing the engine to its limit for the love of it. They would release sthg like Q3TEST before releasingt Q3 just to make their engine perfect.

Ok so, that patch that was supposed to fix issues completely fucked over my game. I knew I should've gotten Dark Souls instead.

I'm a big iD fanboy so I had to buy it... the game is running better than I expected on my PC actually, my GPU is a 3 years old Geforce 9600GT. Yep, there's a lot of texture popping but after tweaking with the video options (and after getting used to it) it gets bearable and the game is playable.
About the gameplay, well, shooting feels good. I really like how the enemies react when they see you and their death animations. The open world is ok, I feel it could be more open and let you explore a little more, but I'm still only 2 hours into the game, I hope that changes after some time. Only thing I'm really not liking are the races, they feel too out of place and unnecessary.

The technical issues are really getting in the way of me playing this game. After getting a BSOD installing Radeon drivers I decided to wait. Frying my desktop for whatever reason right now would be bad, to say the least.

I managed to deal with the texture popping, managed to get the game run at a decent fps and still look good. But non-stop crashing no matter what. Also own a Radeon. carmack blaming it on ati is a joke. shouldn't build your game on drivers that don't exist yet.

Just picked up the Anarchy Edition for PS3. Low and behold, the double sided code insert only had one code printed (there's supposed to be two). I looked it up and this appears to have been a common problem, with people getting either the Sewer DLC or the Anarchy Edition DLC printed, but missing one or the other. Now I have to call or email their customer service hell, just to get a bullshit code that as far as I'm concerned, is on par with Project Ten Dollar. Go fuck yourself Bethesda, learn how to publish a god damn game. God knows they can't make them. EDIT: Looks like they gave me... Extra RAGE.

rage is awesome. it's almost quake/doom made now.
they can already make shooting great with just 2 simple enemy types in early battles, haven't had time to check super far.
the tons to do/driving around thing replaces the old "this is so intense I have to take a break" with ingame breaks, which is great.
the world is fun and the graphics are amazing (playing on 360) and the shooting is great, the combat is intense
