Angry? Yes. Foolish? No.
Leonardo Da Vinci had an influence on the world. Edwin Hubble had an influence on the world. Albert Einstein had an influence on the world (I surely hope you see where I am going with this). Steve Jobs's legacy is that he made a couple of cheap gadgets to sell to mindless idiots and made some pretty interfaces. Holy Fucking Shit let's drop what we are doing and bow at this great achievement.
Oh yeah, I forgot! He saved Pixar from certain doom, hot damn! Let's see Shakespeare beat that kind of accomplishment.

That's really the most useless thing you can say but then, you're too foolish to understand why so i won't explain it, i will just shrug knowingly and pity your pathetic attempt to be intelligent ha ha what a foolish fool i feel that i must laugh at him next time provide evidence for your claims, it is what separates man from the philosophers

The word "hypocritical" comes to mind... Allen at least came back with a solid argument.

I'm not trying to compare Steve Jobs to Albert Einstein or any of the other historical legends but to say he didn't have a positive effect on todays society seems a little close minded. I'm not going to sit here and list of all his achievements or attempt to brainwash you into thinking that macs are the way of the future (If you want that you can go read his biography). Instead all I can really say is that to me Steve Jobs wasn't just some guy wearing a black turtle neck and grey hair, he was an idea. The idea of living life unafraid to pursue what you enjoy, to take risks and embrace genuine creativity. I thought thats what the indie community was all about and that a fellow developer like yourself could respect that.

Somehow I'm mildly shocked hearing this. I'm not really Apple fan but use some of their products (iPod Touch and keyboard) and like them.
Like Allen already stated, this sudden surge of praise to Jobbs is rather hilarious though. I mean he did have some rather shady business and questionable practices (like the Wozniak thing). If I'd have to find something great he did, I'd say pushing easy and logical interfaces to consumer electronics. iOS design has influenced a lot of how interfaces are designed nowadays and IMO mostly in positive way. That said I think he did move industry forward but comparing him to any "great men" of history is a bit too much for me.

I think the einstien/jobs thing is accurate. Einstien was credited for other peoples work, was all hype and PR, and his most famous theory was wrong

Wow. Sudden and unexpected. R.I.P, Steve.
Perhaps he died too late, though. He started out as a great innovator and progressive reformer but had time and success enough to turn into all the things he started out against: conformity, one-option-only, proprietary lock-in, monopolistic behaviour, information restriction.
I will miss the Early Jobs, not the Apple Restart Jobs.

He had an effect, but was it really that positive? How can anyone say? For all we know if it wasn't for his integration of user friendly interfaces in personal computers the internet wouldn't have been successful and eventually flopped. Maybe the 3d imaging technology being developed at Pixar will be used by doctors to find a cure for cancers like the one he died from. But when it all comes down to it he was just a man who spent his life doing what he loved, isn't that enough?
