if emotional state determined success rocky would have beat that russian in rocky 4
WAIT, he didn't? I watched up until the first part of the fight, and then i turned it off. I always thought rocky won! Also, wasn't the russian really a robot?

I never got the whole "Fish is an asshole" thing when it was brought up here on the forums, because it usually went down like this: 1. Fish posts something 2. someone talks shit to Fish 3. Fish talks shit to that someone 4. other people come in and say "Fish talking shit again, he's an asshole"
Now I had a look at his twitter and it makes him look much worse, but only superficially. You look at his tweets and you see him saying "suck it" of "fuck off" a hundred times. What you don't see is the hundred anonymous people baiting him. That's a good point. To me, glancing at his twitter, it just makes him look like a terrible person. Especially in comments without the @, it looks like he's just baiting people constantly. But yeah, you don't see everyone he's been reacting to for the past 5 years.

I hate fish because of the way he acted towards paul a few years ago. choice quotes: not to toot my own horn here, but fez is ARGUABLY one of the most anticipated indie game in recent memory.
YOU TRY LIVING WITH THAT EVERY DAY. if i ever meet paul in person, im gonna shake his hand, spit on the ground, look him straight in the eyes and tell him to go fuck himself. until then, ive decided to make it very clear and public exactly how i feel about him, just like he's done with me. paul didn't provoke him or flame him, he just went off the handle for no reason. he has severe self-esteem and rage issues, and this is why he is so easily baited by flamers on twitter. he can't control his emotions.

allen maybe you and fish are twins maybe you really just hate him because when you see fish, you see yourself... and you hate yourself.

well, what provoked him there wasn't *exactly* nothing (although i didn't think it was that big of a deal either) -- that was in reaction to me wondering why people like phil fish and chris hecker and so on so often give talks about how to create indie games while never having finished one themselves, and saying that i'd be more interested in attending talks from people with experience, like cliff harris, jeff vogel, etc., and wondered why people like the latter were never invited to give talks on indie games
so i wasn't singling out fish in particular, there's a whole class of people who tend to give advice as if they were speaking from authority but if you look at their record they actually don't have much experience in what they are talking about. if i remember, it was intended more as a warning to not take talks at face value, since just because someone is giving a speech somewhere doesn't mean you should listen to them. fish took it as an insult when it wasn't intended that way; i do like fish and like the idea of fez, i think he might be a great indie game developer one day

Absel and ISAGA conferences, 2009-2010. First lecture was at Absel, and was "10 things business simulation designers can learn from modern games." The two principles the designers had the most questions about were interfaces and difficulty curves, so I gave lectures on those at the subsequent ISAGA conferences in 2009 and 2010. There was talk of expanding them into academic papers (with my mother as sponsor, since she's a statistician and the person that suggested I do the lectures in the first place), but I never did.
I ended up getting some contacts through the lectures that I've never used, including a relatively famous (in business sim circles) British developer and a member of the TGS board of directors.

well at least you were somewhat qualified to speak for that because you know more about games than probably anyone attending that

Reading Hiro's Twitter (as well as the feeds of other Japanese people that spoke with Hiro), and I really feel sorry for him even more.
Apparently he paid his own way to come to GDC for the first time so he could hear some great talks and learn new things. He studied English hardcore beforehand, and even switched his language at home to English just to practice for the conference. Then, on his first day at GDC, he works up his courage to ask Fish a question, and gets berated like that.
Anyway, the guy seems like he's really nice. The response really got to him, though. He posted at 3:00am the night of the incident saying he couldn't sleep. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=465642&page=46hiro is apparently the japanese guy that fish publicly humiliated this is his twitter apparently: https://twitter.com/#!/SquashSesame

So, Fez controversy aside... Will Andy Schatz next game be about boats? Monaco with pirates? that could be pretty cool
