Desktop Dungeons didn't come from here, iirc. The blog post and Derek's tileset certainly helped it along, though.

considering most of the FAMUS INDI PEOPUL came from here, it'd be just as shit and awful as the IGF.
fish got his popularity here first; so did notch; so did derek yu, who also won an igf award this year
desktop dungeons? that too
etc etc in other words it is a giant masturbatory conflux of tigsource elite already; how will doing the same thing here fix that
Sure they came from here. I don't believe that means the exact same thing is going to happen if TIG were to have a festival. You don't see anyone complaining about Derek or Notch winning an award. Then again they don't tend to say stupid shit publicly and haven't previously won awards for their respective entries.

Because it would probably be run by people who could hardly be considered "the elite" (like me, paul, inanimate, etc)

The issues with Fez exist outside of TIGworld. I don't remember hearing anything about Minecraft and Aquaria when they won. Maybe there was some internal complaining on these boards but that's very different. For the record, I've been lurking on these boards for about 2 years prior to actually posting anything.

For the record, I've been lurking on these boards for about 2 years prior to actually posting anything. i didn't say tigs -- it was all over, wherever the igf was being discussed. the big issue with minecraft, for instance, is that it didn't need to enter the igf, because notch had already at that point made about twenty million dollars, so he was basically taking an extra 25k (change to him) away from indies who needed it much more; others defended his decision to enter, saying that the igf's job is not to give new indies a chance, it's just to pick the best indie game

I should point out it is not my twitter; it just struck me as the angriest response he had at the time.
The name thing is just a coincidence.
also, the reason i mentioned minecraft is that it too was controversial; i think aquaria was as well.
i suppose desktop dungeons was not really a controversial thing to enter, but the other examples work fine.

Oh I remember that. That did not last long. I don't really consider that much of a comparison though. I don't really care about how much money Notch has (or Fish doesn't have).
What was the beef with Aquaria? I don't recall hearing about that anywhere.

alright, all nonsense aside, it is a bit unfortunate that there haven't been any tigsource competitions lately -- those were always fun for everyone involved, and have resulted in some great games. a festival, though, would just i think result in the same old thing...
maybe if we had a freeware festival, that could be pretty interesting? it'd give people who make games as hobbies a chance to get a little cash out of it... or, if no prizes are awarded, we could still get some exposure.
incidentally, if my writing style is ever confused with anyone else i will be both shocked and, probably, extremely flattered considering the terrible fashion in which i usually converse

I'm down for organizing a TIGS festival, with judges and shit. We can base it on the allen festival document we were goofing around with.
And I started a new compo ideas thread. Go put your ideas in it you dinguses. I'll talk to Derek about starting new compos all proper-like.
