Basically he was guilt tripped by the internet.

Except he apologized at the event too, and apologized again publicly because people can't seem to let shit go when they smell blood and perceived injustice.

Yeah, clearly Fish is the victim here.

Go ahead, choke on my dick.

As is so often the case, sorry if facts get in the way of your witch hunt.

political issues are always boring. the only reason people pay attention to such things is because it affects them, not for entertainment reasons

People do enjoy emotional outbursts though. Politics can ignite that.

Did it take him more than one try to get it right at the event too?

[Phil Fish] was also an ass to phubans, if that appeared on kotaku he would think twice on what he did and excuse to him. I didn't think that he was lying.

Actually, about that... I ran into Fish at a party last Wednesday night and actually got to talk to him in person. I apologized for talking so much shit about him, and he was just as apologetic for the events that lead to our misunderstanding. Turns out, he was surprisingly a lot cooler than I ever could have imagined and I'm glad I decided to talk to him.

I wasn't sure about bringing this up, but I figured it would probably be a good idea for a former antagonist of the dude to actually put in a good word for him right about now. I remember when I was one of those people talking about what a douchebag he was and how I probably wouldn't buy Fez because of it, but now I'm glad we cleared the air so I can enjoy a game I've looked forward to playing for the past 5 years.

Thing is, I see a lot of myself in the guy; we've both spent a lot of time working on stuff we're super passionate about, we've both gone through a lot of personal shit in the meantime, and we've both been poorly represented on the Internet because we aren't always the most discerning in our choice of how to express ourselves online. I can relate to the dude and I'm done telling everyone how much of an asshole I once thought he was.

from what i read, at the event, he apologized to a *different* japanese person than the one he actually insulted (one of the people on the panel was japanese). that's not the same as an apology to the person directly (which he did later on)

I'm pretty sure you could bribe a homeless person to play your game for 48 hours straight for that amount of change and write you a 1000 word essay on the experience.

but you don't understand, it takes an expert / professional to play a game for 5 minutes
