I can totally understand being in his position after what happened. I'm suprised at the complete lack of empathy that the internet displayed. Dude's life is ripped apart and instead of trying to band together to support them, we scoff and call him a fool.

Wasn't that post from before the robbery? So the guy in the letter was actually politely asking for a refund, which is part of normal business and the parameters they Zomboid people themselves had specified and advertised, which makes lemmy go into hater mode, internet rage, sulk protest with games, and probably alienate everyone and damage their repute and the indie label (which does exist as long as people can say "indie game").

I'd buy a beer for this guy irl. I can see why he gets so pissed off. His fan-base is fucking retarded.

Allen, I would kindly ask you to stop calling people stupid, dum, asses etc at every oppotunity. It makes me wish for an "ignore posts from this user" button. Anyway, you don't have to buy him a beer, you can pre-order the game. You'll likely be one of the few after his ragesplosions.

I'm all with Sinclair on this one that it is obvious (at least apparent so from his posts) that he lacks professionalism in several senses of the word: self-control, integrity, procedures, and more, and that this IS a problem and will probably continue to be a problem for him.

tl;dr This lemmy guy acts like a hater towards his own purchasers and fansbase.

[Edit] About "retarded fanbase", it might be self-selection in action.

Just grab this greasemonkey script:
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=6752.msg217485#msg217485
And replace paul eres with allen and "I disagree" with whatever you want.

edit: oh wait, looks like there's a proper ignore users script in that thread too:
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=6752.msg545459#msg545459
I only tried out the first one though.

Didn't you read the post? The email was obviously quite dickish and entitled. He was hard working on some obnoxious code, and decided to take a break to check some email and that's what he gets. Already frustrated at working long and hard on some code and he opens his inbox to find some little brat complaining about infrequent updates (while he is currently working on an update). How would that not make you mad?

Yes he could have exercised a bit more restraint, but as a person who is prone to rage I can empathize with him. When we are angry we don't make the best decisions, it's part of who we are and you can't just say "stop it", it doesn't work like that. That's like telling a depressed person to just "suck it up". They are going to be depressed despite your piss poor advice, and I am going to be prone to rage despite your piss poor attempts to try and calm me down or ask me to not get angry.

No matter how often you bitch about Lemmy's behavior, that's who he is. It's not your job to police him, if his co-workers find a problem with that they'll deal with him themselves. In the mean time, you can shut the fuck up about it. No one is forcing you to read what he says. And no one is forcing you to read what I say. And if you're too sensitive to hear occasional nasty words from my mouth, you can go fuck yourself.

The Indie Stone are (were?) in a position most independent game developers on these forums and in general would love to be in: They have a large fanbase and are earning enough money to support the continued development of their game. I would be ecstatic with a constant smile on my face if I could do that. Instead, this Lemmy guy seems to bitch and moan at every opportunity. If anything, he seems to have at least as severe entitlement issues as the vocal minority of fans. How about focusing on the thousands of fans that have given him a pat on the back by buying the game and not go sulk in the corner with Deus Ex when a customer asks for a refund?

Hi there,

Not sure if this is possible but at this moment in time I feel that is game isn’t getting as much love as it used to before it went massively popular (by that I mean less and less updates from the devs) and at this moment in time I would like to request a refund on the game if possible please.

I'd say, quite polite a letter. Succinct, he is reasonable, he gives an explanation, there are no expletives or attacks, and he says "please". And how would anyone know about the inner mental states of another person? And, quoting you contradictiing yourself, why should he care rather than say what he wants, which apparently makes him an insufferable brat (hint)?

Anyway, like C.K. says, had we in our enterprise their support base and got such polite letters I'd be in a constant state of euphoria and gratitude.

Most of the dickishness seems to be on Lemmy's end. Not to say he isn't allowed to be, but if your site says you may offer refunds on request, I'm not sure what else you would expect when someone asks for one. I don't think you can expect people to know much about game programming other than "It's hard" and "It takes a long time". I think a better more informative rant might have included how much time each of these features takes to code. Then again, even if he posted it, it doesn't guarantee that everyone will end up reading it.
