Aight, played the demo #2 that was on the site. It's pretty cool so far, and it has potential to be way better than Noitu Love 2. It'd be nice if he made the healthbar a bit smaller (or made enemy damages go up a bit), and autoaim for my shots is also kind of lame; a lot of times I found I could just mash A until an enemy died without having to worry about getting hit (or if I did, I could easily subsist since enemies didn't do much damage; this might become a bigger issue as the game progresses as well, since the player can get stat upgrades.) The wrench and ledge grab reach should be a bit bigger too, that segment of the desert area where there were 3 grab points and 3 ledge points in a row was really wonky. Some sort of action midboss between the two main puzzle areas of the desert would also be nice, especially if it was as cool as or cooler than the first main robot boss. Pixel art is ridiculously gorgeous, though, and even if the game was stupidly boring (it isn't) it would still be worth playing for that.
Either way, knowing Konjak this is probably going to be the best game at IGF and it'll definitely be the prettiest one, so if it doesn't sweep the awards (it won't, it's not "innovative" enough!!!!!) then shit'll suck.

I wasn't a fan of the auto-aim either, but combat might feel clunky without it. there should at least be an option to disable it. but I think it's probably in there for a reason or two.
and calm down with the hyperbole. it's decent and pretty but it's not exactly ground-breaking.

I wish Konjak would go back to his 'chibi' style. Not to say the new style is bad, it's just...
With that said, looking forward to anything he does. Noitu Love 2 was a lot of fun, and so was Legend of Princess. I have a lot of faith that he knows what he's doing when making games.
I don't like Konjak's style tbh, I think the colors are a bit too crude or sthg. It's a matter of taste anyway.

Auto-aim makes this. We need more games like Thexder/Alisia Dragoon/El Viento. Noitu Love 2 is still the best indie action game, and is inarguably one of the best 2D action games ever. As good as indie games can get, there aren't really all that many I could say are best-in-genre games (though there are a few).

So this is basically a remake of his abandoned game Ivory Springs? Looks fucking sweet. I guess I'll skip the "inferior" demo and wait for the real thing though.
Yes. However, even the remake was abandoned at one point. The demo that's available now is what Konjak had when he abandoned the game the second time. Then, there was a lot of fan support and he's started work on it again. As others have noted, he's already improved a lot on the demo that's available on his site. I also really enjoyed Noitu Love 2 and I hope he finishes this one. I thought the demo showed a lot of promise.

i think indies dominate text-adventure games, visual novels, tower defense games, danmaku shmups, and various casual genres and subgenres traditional genres with 30 years of history are harder to make the 'best-in-genre' in because they're so established, even for non-indies, since you're competing with all of them ever made

roguelikes bro. those are pretty much an "indie genre." almost all RLs from industry-based devs are mediocre to bad. as far as danmakus, zun is really the only notable "indie" who makes them and the devs commonly considered the "top tier" of the genre (cave, raizing, psikyo etc.) aren't really "indie" imo.

from what i remember (haven't played them in about 5 years) those games do have a ton of bullets, but didn't have the other features (slowdown button, etc.) -- but they were similar in that you spent most of your time dodging bullets
