I got used to the controls pretty quickly, but they were definitely not what I preferred. I suppose they make sense in the context of the way the game is designed. Still, there is that 7 Deadly Sins boss that has a diagonal area attack, which doesn't make sense considering you should never be diagonal from him if you're constantly attacking him.

I think it makes sense with normal enemies considering they have the potential to swarm you.

That's true though I haven't really had trouble with them there either. I have the biggest issue with the dudes that jump up through cave ceilings I guess and ground pound to get their shots off.

Back on topic: I also enjoyed the Geometry Wars option of having movement on the mouse and having 8-way directional shooting on the keyboard. I haven't really seen much of that and I think it worked well there. That wouldn't work for side-scrollers though.

I use a ps2 style controller. left analog stick controls movement and the face buttons (x, triangle, o, square) control the shooting. the right analog stick is also mapped to control shooting but I prefer the face buttons.

I tried playing with keyboard and found it impossible.

I always feel that with games that use this type of control scheme typically lend themselves to situations where the player always wants to be walking away from their enemy.  If an enemy is weak enough that I feel confident to walk towards it as I'm shooting, then it's kind of irrelevant.  If I have to back peddle from it and shoot, it makes me feel like I'm just trying to endure it.  It never really makes me feel like I'm engaging an enemy, simply putting up with them until they'll go away.  I feel like in these arena shooters, where both yourself and your enemies can move and shoot in all directions everything just sort of feels messy.  I just feel like I'll never find an enemy that will ever attack that will require a high degree of fines at my part.  I feel like the only way twinstick shooters really present a challenge is by overloading you with too many simple enemies for you to handle until you have backed up into a corner.

It just doesn't give me the FUCK YES IM DOING THIS sensation that I get from other shooting games.  Dick's totally flaccid, here.

I like rushing at the enemy while shooting so all my shots pile up and hit them at the same time and kill them instantly.
