Hi folks,

we have a little poll on our website Graveyard Dogs, which also serves as our gamedev diary, about the best RPGs of all time, it would be nice to get some opinions. If You fancy, the poll is also at our Facebook page.
My first long term relationship with an RPG was SSI's Pool of Radiance, which I played for weeks and loved to death, and the last great RPG I finished was Mass Effect.
We are currently evaluating different settings for our own RPG game, hopefully creating something that is NTSA (Not the same again).
Its not gonna be over the top, we wanna create it fast but good, to see if the gameplay and setting is appealing to people.
The tile based editor is already in the works, and I am testing different art styles, probably using LightWave3D for prerendered ingame characters. Please vote, so we can get a big picture of what people liked most. Thanks for Your contribution !

I'm poking for Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals, PokeMon (RBY and GS), ChronoTrigger, and Final Fantasy VI; especially considering the fact that you're mentioning tiles.

You know... I was just thinking the other day, there's a friend of mine that's sunk about 35 hours into FF IX. But they're really sincerely enjoying it, along with a lot of the modern ones, even XIII. Sure, they're all crap by our old-school standards; but if these newer players don't have that bar holding them back from enjoying them, then who are we to deny them of their enjoyment?

Hell, I'm about to suggest they NEVER play FF VI or anything prior to that, for fear of it spoiling their enjoyment of the currently-relevant series, and replacing it with the hard edge of design-competence that we see them through. Modern Zelda/Sonic and social games, too; if that's how they really like it. It may just be time to accept that they're a totally different type of experience than the ones we loved and treasured; but that doesn't make them bad - it just makes them "right for other people" instead.

Old Timer here...

Ultima 7 part I and II. Many young'uns have never played them, download the exult engine, get a copy of U& and try it out. It still stands as an amazing example of world design.

The poll should have more RPGs from which to choose.

Hehe, I am just starting with U6, which I just purchased (am I late to the party ?).I played U3 on my Amiga (along with Demon's Winter and stuff like that) some twenty years ago, but U6 was something I always wanted to try.Especially after I read "The Book of Ultima", an excellent behind-the-scenes documentation of Richard Garriotts way to fame (in the vain of "Masters of Doom" which everyone should read Smiley ).

I also have already 120 hours in FF XII, with FFX still waiting for me to start. And there is still the plan to play FF 1-6 :D But those random battles can become tedious...

But seeing that intro screen of Ultima 6 and thinking about its legacy just gives me the goosebumps :D

Hop over to our Facebook site if You like and add the ones you think are missing Smiley

Maybe this should be in the advertising/announcements section.

Why, what am I advertising  ? I am just asking people what they think about classic role playing games. So far, Fallout seems pretty popular, although i thought that the subject is pretty "core". And I am very happy to see Starflight getting some love, I think the SciFi element in RPGs is pretty underrepresented. There is Starflight, the Phantasy Star series, Mass effect and the KOTOR games...bjut compare that to the VAST amount of standard orcs vs humans games !

Did either of them offer something groundbreaking ? PS:T was about story and choices, so was Ultima 4. KOTOR was about Star Wars (sigh) :D

Ultima 7 and Ys I&II complete . One is the best westren RPG the other the best JRPG.
Also, why do you say "Greatest AND most popular" as if popular means it is a good game? (If you think it does, what do you think of many current AAA FPS games that are popular?)

Gothic 2 is definitely one of the best RPGs I've played. No trace of it in your poll, however.

Planescape: Torment - greatest vibe, world, characters and story ever.
It's just not so popular as other RPGs. Sad

LOL, yeah, I wrote it that way because I supposed that there are many hidden gems, but I am interested to see which of the GREATEST also were successfull :D
Is Y's more hack'n'slash ? Its available for PSP, and I often thought I should get it, but I am unsure as to wheather its cool or not...whats great about it ?
