Do the Elder Scroll games have liches?
Like honest to goodness stolen-from-D&D liches?
Cause I think it'd be a hoot and a half to have a quest dedicated to becoming one of those.

I think the older ones have Liches as enemies. I don't know what you mean by "honest to goodness stolen-from-D&D lich" though. and Skyrim has the Dragon Priests ( http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dragon_Priest) you can summon them but you can't actually become one of them. they use the same spells the player use so I wouldn't see the point anyway.

yo just chimin in to say that despite my criticisms of the game i'm really liking it. gilbert timmy (for those who actually read his post) was right, it's your very own fantasy theme park and i think it's the best elder scrolls so far.

Well I'm only really familiar with the lore of liches from D&D (specifically pathfinders, which is an upgraded offshoot of 3.5)
Liches are mages that give up their humanity by placing their souls in a phylactery so that they can continue to research magic past a normal lifespan.
I'd like to be able to embrace some "evil" paths that aren't necessarily just "be the night mother's personal bitch"

Morrowind and Oblivion had Vampire quests in them. I think Morrowind had a werewolf quest too.
It would be completely in line with the series to have a Lich quest.

I'm pretty sure Skyrim has a vampire quest, and crowe has said there is a werewolf quest as well. So there's that. I don't get how because the series has had werewolf/vampire quests before that they would have a Lich quest for the player. How does that make sense?

You've already got quests where the player can become some sort of supernatural being as part of a quest, so it's not a stretch to let the player become a different sort of supernatural being.
I never said they would have one, just that they could and it wouldn't be too out of sorts.

Liches didn't originate with dnd and are in tons of fictional universes besides it.

There is a quest involving Vampires that has a good chance of you turning into one. AFAIK there's no specific quest to become a vampire or be inducted among other vampires. As for the werewolves...
It's the Companion guild quest. The inner circle of Companions are all werewolves.

I've been playing it for awhile now and I'm finding it just.. boring. I'm ignoring a good chunk of miscellaneous sidequests at this point which are just back-and-forth delivery, trying to focus on more exploration and action. The fights are usually pretty boring as well. Plenty of skills like stealth and pickpocketing are practically useless for too long a period; they're only being utilized to be improved, not for any practical means, unless I arrow someone in the back from a distance. The visuals are kind of a letdown, though not in any distracting kind of way - I just expected more. It's also the most glitch-heavy game I've ever come across, despite having picked it up after a patch, and load times are quite sup-par. Actually, most things about the game feel slow all around, and I don't have the patience for that anymore.
I had more fun with Bethesda's line of Fallout games... but I'll at least finish this one and see how I feel about it then. Right now it's about a 6/10 in my view.

Don't worry, I'm fully aware. As I stated numerous times, D&D is just my primary game experience in dealing with liches. But that's neither here, nor there. I doubt Bethesda will be releasing an undead character class any time soon.

Are we even playing the same game? The only glitches I've had so far are crashes (annoyingly frequent). The visuals are far and above the uncanny valley of Fallout 3 and Oblivion. My load-times are also excellent (less than 5 seconds for everything except initial load, less than 15 seconds for initial load). I ain't gonna deny that there's a lot of fetch quests, but you can also complete a large chunk of quests just by exploring into caves and shit. Dungeon crawling is a very valid way to progress (it's how I spent my first 40(!) hours)

My only gripe is how menu-heavy it is on console. Being unable to switch weapons or spells without going through a menu is pretty flow-breaking, and it seems that once I use up my last of a potion it gets removed from my favorites without warning, so I have to re-fave it every time I get some more, which causes even more unnecessary menuage.
Saw some gameplay of it on pc and the quickness with which weapons/spells were swapped and cast made me envious.
It's frozen on me about three or four times already, but between how frequently I save and the game's autosaves it's never cost me much. I lose more progress by dying than the crashes.
My character isn't really specializing in anything - got perks all across the board - and it seems to be doing me well; never too easy, never too hard. I can imagine how some builds would be overpowered and boring, but I often mix it up with destruction, summons, melee (<3 shields), and archery, so I get to approach situations in whatever seems most entertaining manner.
I've explored many of the game's regions but still occasionally come across bits of scenery that make me stop and look, including places I've been to before under different conditions.
I am really enjoying this game.
