"Hello, adventurer," the old fortune teller croaks. "Would you like me to tell you your future?" Her hands wave in swift arcs and show you into her tent. It's quite dim inside here.
"Let me start with a palm reading," she mumbles. She grabs your hand with all the force of a frail hunchbacked woman and begins tracing your hand with her uncomfortably long and sharp fingernails.
"I see..." Her eyes grow wide and she pushes your hand away. "Your father, he was one of the great Thaumaturges!" She grabs a staff with a brass tip that almost made it a spear from a rack and presses it into your hand. "Take this, adventurer. You will need it."
She explains, "Centuries ago, in the time of the dragons, nine courageous men were taught by the First Thaumaturge himself how to manipulate the elements. Wildfires, oceans, mountains, hurricanes - they all bowed to the will of the Thaumaturge. They eradicated the dragons and returned home, heroes. But they kept their new abilities secret because they knew that they could throw the world into chaos, if only it knew of the magicks it entertained."
"And now you," she looks you up and down. "Not only have you inherited this power, but I see you are also destined to drink from the... gods have mercy... the Divine Goblet."
After a moment of silence she exclaims, "You've not heard of the Divine Goblet? Well what sort of adventurer are you, to have never heard the most infamous rumor among treasure-seekers everywhere!" She says, "The Divine Goblet is a goblet imbued with the soulstuff of the gods. The man who drinks from it will never die!"
"And you, my friend, are going to be the first mortal to drink from it in a millenium!"
She cackles a bit and then frowns at you. "What are you still doing in my tent? Get out! And you owe me fifty coppers."
Disregard the first few pages of this topic. Thaumaturgy began as a rougelike-metroidvania, but then later became a platformer-metroidvania.
