Firaxis' X-Com is made by a whole team with millions of dollars in funding. SpaceHero Command is made by just ONE happymonster!
Also, more X-Com-likes can never be a bad thing. Also also, I bet you can piggyback on X-Com's hype and get posted on Rock Paper Shotgun.

Well your game actually looks inviting and doesn't sport burly spess mareehns wearing minivans. Also, I'd totally buy a plushie of your martians.
Just keep the theme and add even more life and colors (seriously, kick that grey floor an inch towards blue or purple), and you're good!

Awww! Thanks, I'm feeling the love.. I've tweaked the grey floor to be a bit more bluish, and although it makes things look a bit colder, it might work out better than the grey. I'll have to experiment more with some other graphics as well.

Moved the shadow tiles into a separate set so they don't need to be duplicated with different terrain tiles. Very quick to do and something I should have done earlier. Also, over 10,000 views! Wow!! Thanks all, hope you're still entertained.

I'm lacking a little in ideas at the moment, so apart from some bug fixes and other work - nothing new to show. I'm trying to decide what kind of scenarios to use for the map parts (i.e. the original xcom had farms, terror missions, woodlands, arctic, etc..). I'm more interested in the Laser Squad style sci-fi settings, but my imagination is not being very co-operative at the moment.

I didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know the background of the game. Is this an X-Com like game happening in present earth? Or some other setting?

Any ideas guys? I need some inspiration! You need scenarios? All right. You have these very cute-looking aliens, right? So how about: - The aliens are no invasors, but simply want cash. They're the intergalactic beagle boys and break into vaults, villas, museums and Fort Knox. Bonus points if you give them classic black robber masks.
- There's a certain terrestrian resource the aliens want to gather (platinum, diamonds, blue cheese...), so you'll have a mix of "nature" settings as well as man-made settings like processing plants etc. Hard mode: The aliens aren't aggressive at all, the blue cheese is just their fuel to get off our stupid planet. Humanity, of course, is so blood-thirsty they don't even see this, attacking them mercilessly.
- As a more serious proposal, perhaps all levels could be alien bases in various places and varying states of completion.
I'm honestly a bit at a loss regarding what the trouble might be finding scenarios for a conventional alien game - wouldn't the standard city/base/moon/alien planet settings be completely sufficient?

Pumping station, solar panel farm, crashed ships, landing craft, geodesic domes, massive radar or radio telescopes, transit hubs (rail platform), algae vats, hangars, space temples, orbital elevator base, mass driver, pit mine, robot factory, virus lab (Andromeda Strain!), spaceport, refugee camp, quarantine zone, antennae complex, command bunker, experimental crops, munitions dump, supercomputer mainframe, nuclear waste containment, hospital, particle accelerator, photonics lab (lasers), clean room, parklands. Okay, draw those up and get back to us when you need more suggestions

Thanks guys! Some great ideas there. (It's actually the drawing up bit that's proving the problematic part at the moment..) Pompi: It's more of a sci-fi future setting than X-com.

Or a meeting room for aliens & humans... Subtitles: Rob: "hey, zblobus, why dont we seat at this table and have a beer instead of killing each other?" And project becomes a text-based intergalactic conflict resolution

Something about the aliens using bog-standard swivelly office chairs makes me chuckle.

This is actually a game about Superb Joe.
In all seriousness, though, this is shaping up nice and I am real excited.
