Well, while we're on the subject of future games, can I ask you guys for an opinion on an idea I have? It's nothing that will be a secret from the players, so I can talk about it here without ruining anything. I'm just not sure if it would work.

So the idea is that about half the players are 'inside' the town, and the other half are 'outside', being refugees from a werewolf-infested region. Being outside is very bad, probably due to random killings by 'wild beasts' or something. Just so that everyone has a good motivation to try and get inside. But nobody is let inside without the permission of those already in the town. The people in the town know that some of those outside are werewolves, but they also know that most of the good human specials are on the outside too, and they need those specials to help deal with the vampires, who are all on the inside. So that hopefully gives them enough incentive to let the refugees in after some careful scrutiny.

At first I thought the people on the inside would all vote on each refugee's case, but that would probably take too long. Instead I thought each inside player can cast a 'vouch' as well as a lynch vote. You can vouch for or against any refugee, and if, at the end of the day, there are more vouches for than against a particular refugee, they get let in.

So... do you think this would work, or would it be too complicated? Would the insiders have sufficient motivation to vouch for outsiders?

I think that sounds like a neat idea. Smiley You wouldn't even need vampires and werewolves if you didn't want them, you could just say there is one wolf inside, and at least two out.

You'd need to play with the sort of players who could understand the inside/outside voting rules. If people got confused, it wouldn't work well.

Incidentally, considered allowing an inside player to be thrown outside on a successful vote?

As for the downside of being outside, you could declare at the start that beasts will kill one random outside person per turn.

I'm also wondering what "careful scrutiny" is available. How would anyone scrutinise anyone else? All of the outsiders will be calling "let me in!".

As for sufficient motivation, identifying what one outside role is (a valuable one) would give people a good reason to let others in. Perhaps a Seer, that way everyone outside will make up visions pretending to be the Seer. Smiley

An Idea.

Heh, I like that! Might take a little planning, and a large-ish number of people, but I think it could work. At the very least, it'd make for an interesting experiment in trust.

Though, the vouch system seems unwieldy. Unless the game is long, most people would remain outside, wouldn't they? And if people start dying when a new person is let in, that person would be killed off. Unless the wolves could traverse. But that could lead to problems...

ANYWAY, good idea, but needs thinking. I'm open to having you bounce ideas off me! Though, I'm not always helpful.

Garthy, I would be well up for a game hosted by you. Was considering ducking out of the next one, but I think you'd have something interesting/verbose to offer.

Finally, curse you Valter! You shattered me and jstckr's enormously fragile alliance by (with "help" from cyber) in ONE day. Plus, I only got to steal from agj. Fat lot of good that did me. Though, watching the game devolve into madness was fun. Also, go Team Werewolf. FIVE of you. Madness.

Well, that's three people (thanks Smiley *blush*), so I'm game if nobody objects. To give people a chance to object (or offer to host instead), and since it's almost midnight here, I'll wait until the morning and check back then. If nobody has spoken up, I'll start a new thread for signups and pop a link to it here. I've typed up a good chunk of the intro thus far. It should be fun. Smiley

GeneralValter: Yes, I remember. Smiley I'll be careful.
chutup: If you're angling to host a game (perhaps with your idea?), I think you've got more right than me since you've been playing here longer- just say so and I'll stand aside, no hassles.

Man, I totally had Imaginationac and Cheater pegged as werewolves Tongue

I didn't know about Team Quiggan though, mostly because he had been inactive for awhile so I assumed he wasn't still playing. I would have never guessed that policedanceclub had gotten turned though Shocked

Sadly, I haven't had an internet connection in a few days so I wasn't able to see everything pan out. Good game to everyone though and I'll definitely be interested in the next one.

I agree with Garthy hosting the next game.

Also,

Melly

That means I'd like to reserve a spot on your game Garthy, if that's okay by you. I'm not sure I'll be online at the exact time you make the thread, and these things fill up quickly lately.

Okay, I've started a new game here:

http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2595.0

I'll hold a position open for people who have indicated they'd like to play in a game I'm running (cyber95, GeneralValter, Gainsworthy, Melly, skaldicpoet9??), but please post in the thread to signup officially. Everyone else welcome too, of course, I'm just mentioning the people who have already expressed an interest.

Hope none of you are scared by witches. Wink
