Hey thanks for the feedback guys  Smiley

The pillars that pop out of the ground to block your way are really dark and hard to notice.

I died on the first part with the walls opening up because I hit the side of the wall.  Why does the player die like this?  He should only die if he is trapped between the wall and the edge of the screen.

It could use some more gameplay elements, but I understand you're trying to keep it simple, so ..

I've uploaded the latest version of the game which replaced the old pillars and hopefully has made it clearer.

The opening walls have now been fixed to open up automatically so hopefully that fixes the getting trapped issue.

Would love to add more gameplay elements but really just wanted to complete a basic short game for my first(although this has still taken me ages to make).

Sort of reminds me of Canabalt. However, I do think the generation of the levels needs a bit more work. Sometimes, I would come to a situation where it was impossible for me to jump. Also, the art style seems to clash between pixelated, realistic and cartoony. I think you if you just stick to one style and vibe on it, you end result would be more pleasing aesthetically.

Definite Canabalt influence here, was just trying to make something simple for my first game. There is a moment where you come to a final high platform and from that one you have to jump at the last moment and reach the one in the ceiling with the rungs. Then you'll climb along and fall onto the following platform. Also been trying to make the art style more cohesive, so hopefully it works better with the latest version.

Loving the new background! looks awesome. Im a little confused, i kept running and jumping and shooting the flying thing, caught it then everything ended. is that supposed to happen.

Thanks, really happy you like the new background. Was hoping people would like it. Also that is the ending for the moment. Haven't really thought of a proper ending yet so that's it for now. But I know it's very abrupt and really needs something.

Thanks again for all the feedback and messages guys  Gentleman Really helps with the motivation to finish this project. Have uploaded the latest version of the game with all the devlog updates till now incorporated.

Been working on fixing little mistakes I've found through the game.

Started adding sound by James Primate (http://brightprimate.tk) So now have great menu and game themes added. Also started trying to get the SFX included.

Have added music and SFX buttons in options, so now the player can also choose whether they want music or SFX while playing. Strange thing on the iPhone and Android is that it doesn't matter if your phone is on silent it will still play the game music until you turn it off in game. Not sure how I'm going to fix that....

Game has slowed down with just trying to get the sound working properly and tweaking the crazy messy code. Have created a little app icon for the game though.

I can't wait to see it all music and sfx'd up!

honest question though: in the menu screen, where the character is chasing the flying heart and has the BONER thought bubble... my question is,,, are you man enough to keep that in when you submit to the app store? because you gotta keep that in Grin

Thanks and yeah have now replaced that image cause knew I had no chance of getting it through with it. Also it was just a joke while I was developing it and couldn't think of anything else. Still haven't really decided what I want to replace the bubbles with, so for now it's all the same except the thought bubble just says "idiot". Hopefully will think of something better soon.

The music is sounding great so far, so thanks again for that. Just working on getting the sfx going now.

Tested the game on a friends iPad 2 today and it ran perfectly, no dropped frames and no hiccups. Really nice to see it running well. Still runs at just over half the framerate it's meant to on the iPad 1 though so that sucks. Will give cleaning up the code another look at and hopefully can get it running better but for now it looks like the first iPad won't be supported  Sad

Now that I'm so close to the end, I seem to have really slowed down on finishing this. Too many other distractions at the moment.

This is the image I'm using on my website of the game on the iPad.

Haven't done much work on this lately.

Just fixed a sound bug where when you pressed the HOME button on your phone the sound would keep playing. Now it stops it and resumes from where you were when you open it again.

I did! I actually just installed it (had trouble figuring out how to install .ipa files, stupid apple), but it runs awesome on iPad 2 and full screen is a blast. sounds good, great vibe! I might suggest a dedicated jump button? idk, but other than that <3 it

Good point about the jump button, hadn't really considered it since I first started the game. But will have to consider it again  Undecided

I actually like how you add the shooting the flying object part though. It requires some timing skill in order to land an accurate shot. The atmosphere is nice, and I was nervous and excited every time I make a high jump, trying to grab the ceiling!

One big problem I found is the scoring system. The scoring and the goal are against each other. You want to catch the flying head( is it a flying head? I based this on the title screen), but as soon as you catch it, the game's over. So the best way to get a score is to NOT shoot the head but keep running until you catch up to it. If that's the case, then the shooting feature is useless. It requires skill to shoot the target but the player don't get any reward in return.

There are many ways to improve this in the endurance running game, for example you could...
1.) Combo/Chain system : Collecting the score items consecutively will increase the score gained from the item.
2.) Give points to each successful shot
3.) Force player to shoot. Maybe the head can shoot something back and you can either jump over it or shoot your own energy ball to nullify his attack.

Good luck with the game!

Thanks for the great feedback Hima  Smiley Definitely a nice kick to get me working again.

The scoring thing is something that I realised awhile ago and am surprised no one else has mentioned. Definitely an issue at the moment because it is completely pointless. Keep remembering about it and then something else pops up and I get distracted and stop thinking about it. Really was just a test when I first started the game to see if I could add a scoring and highscore system. Then I completely forgot about what the point of it was. First game and guess I was just learning and testing what I could do.

Will definitely have to figure something for it. Maybe a countdown timer which you have to beat before it gets to zero or the bad guy will get away? So if you don't shoot him the time will run out quicker and the items you collect could add seconds?

Haven't really been working on this lately so that's been an issue and have actually started some new projects.

Should really get back to working on this game though and finishing off the last few things.

So thanks again for the feedback and good luck finishing your game Smiley

Had noticed that the second character you can use is actually larger then the first, so spent a bit of time today fixing the dimensions of the character. Scaled him down to fit in better with the first player. Small fix, but nice to be back working on it with some actual goals and targets.
