Just wondered what people felt about this.. Personally, I think a collection of all that is good from this forum on a more centralized and easier to browse place would be awesome.

Tutorials, resources, games, links, articles, monocles... Pie?

There is a wealth of information on this forum, but some is not that easy to find, unless it's sticky and not in a thread with 5325321532 replies. So there.

How's it sound? Maybe if enough people like the idea some of the admins could throw something up? Yes? I'd be more than happy to help out with this.

I think a TIGS Wiki is a very good idea. If nothing else, it could also be a good place for newbies to learn about our in-jokes! Grin

I see what you did there.

I support the idea of a Wiki though. Especially stuff like indepth information about indie games is often hard to come by, as they don't receive the same amount of attention commercial games get.

I mean, TigSource has a Blog, a community and a database of games. With a central collection of information, I think we got the whole internet covered.

Yes, I agree. We are the Internet. What would a wiki add to THAT?

On a more serious note, Someone did a wiki about getting in indie business there.

I think a wiki for indie games would be a good idea, there's a lot it could cover that the tigs db could not. You can set them up very easily, I use personal wiki's for the design documents for my games. I mean, there's a wiki just for WoW, a wiki just for Star Trek, a wiki just for Firefly, and no wiki just for indie games (not indie game business, but indie games)?

Yeah, but the issue with a wiki for indie games is that the TIGdb is already pretty much that.

I don't know if Derek and progrium would want to put our tutorials and general helpful stuff on there, though, because it might become bloated, so a wiki purely for that stuff could be a good idea.

I don't like the idea of a wiki of in-jokes. That way lies 4chan.

Not really -- there's a lot that it doesn't cover that a wiki about independent gaming would cover. It could go into much more detail about a game than the TIGdb does. Compare the TIGdb entry on Cave Story with the Wikipedia article on Cave Story.

http://db.tigsource.com/games/cave-story
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_Story

You can do similar comparisons for other games which have Wikipedia pages -- the difference is pretty evident.

On that same page, instead, an effort could be made to populate Wikipedia with indie game knowledge?
