You're welcome, and I hope so!

Here's another Tower room in action. This is what you can expect from this particular area, however most H2 areas are not QUITE this tough. The tower floor above this one is brutal so I won't show that to the public at all. I want it to be a surprise  Ninja

The Tower is finished! Jesus, that might be the fastest I've ever completed an entire area. Once I've finished fully balance testing it, I have another minor enemy to add to the existing jungle area then it's on to an underground Hoff facility.

This room was cool because I've been wanting to add some "already-frozen" enemies to the mix for awhile:

The tower is looking great, it looks really cold! How long till this monster of a game is complete?

I have it listed over at the Daily Click's project page at 73%, which is probably pretty accurate. The tower was supposed to be a side area you can find on the space map later but I decided to stick it on Hoff instead. Hoff still has 2 more areas to go and 2 big bosses.

I have maybe 8-10 simple cutscenes to do, 3 mini games to make, minimum 15 more enemies to make (dwarfs H1's enemy list by far), 2-3 more playable side areas unrelated to the main planets, and of course the "Big End Boss Evil Planet (-tm)" which I think will just be a single huge area and not broken up into pieces like the rest. Have to add at least a few more NPCs. Then playtesting / balancing / and going back and adding new shortcuts between areas (if needed). I did that a lot with H1 and it really improved the game so I can't see how something done similarly with H2 wouldn't benefit the overall project also.

It's really the artwork which is taking the longest time I think. That, and the way I'm doing the area maps this time around is kind of time consuming. I kind of wish I never put maps in the game but of course it's way too late to take them out now.

EDIT: I've also done a bit more work to the above screenshot's tower graphics to make the tower sides look less flat. I'll add that in later tonight.

Did a lot on this last night!

*Finished that big tower room
*Recolored the tower backgrounds darker
*Added some wall banners to the tower background
*Added a 5th page to the in-game monster log

*Made a new enemy, Pinipple, which is a flying pineapple w/ nipples who bombs you with sticky mines which are also nipples. It can have up to 10 mines max at a time, and of course if you step on one it blows up and hurts you (and makes room for more mines to be dropped). Pinipple has high HP and mobility, and great drops however you have to have a pretty high LUCK stat in order to see its rare one.

Here's the recolored tower w/ the wall banners:

Here's the Pinipple bombing the shit out of Rovert:

This reminds me of an Amiga game (In a good way). The jungle levels look a little cluttered, though, and the underground 'room' in that last one doesn't stand out very well.

I should probably play the first game sometime. Too many games in my backlog.

Thanks, SirNiko! Anything that has to do with Amiga / Commodore 64 / or Apple ][ computers is good with me, I grew up on those machines (And an 80 lb TRS-80 with giant floppies).

The underground tunnels in the jungle use the same background that the regular caves do, which when put next to the dark dirt of the place doesn't contrast too much. I could try to lighten it up a bit and maybe nix extraneous soil plants which might improve the clutter. The theme of this area is "Warfare & Vegetables" so I had potter's soil and weeds and stuff in mind when I made the dirt. The game doesn't use tiles so it might take a little while to redo these but I'm alwways looking to improve upon it.

If you do try the first game, please bear in mind that it was my first real platformer. It got on somebody's top 10 Metroidvania list though which was cool to see:

Okay, so aside from normal H2 activities last night I was able to do some recoloring and actually that was a great idea about lightening the inside cavern walls up. I changed them over to dirt from rock and changed the other few places in the jungle area that had similar rock caverns. Also I un-cluttered it a bit more by removing some of the bits of rock and weeds from the walls and ground:

And the room that this helicopter enemy was in didn't really look "right" to me for the longest time, but changing the background with the lighter tones seems to have improved it. So thanks twice  Grin

I'm doing some weapon balancing tonight and in all honesty the legendary family whip wasn't all that legendary. So now it will instantly destroy all undead foes in a single hit. No matter their HPs, undead bosses included. I just have to finish all the instances of the graphical effects, which should be done tomorrow.

The whip is now a lot more useful, I think this was a good move.

Is there anything preventing the player from switching weapons on the fly?

I could see that turning into an annoying design choice if I have to keep equipping the whip to just kill one or two undead then go back to a different weapon.

That might be a thing to keep in mind while testing.

The underground bits are now a lot easier to see!

When you equip a weapon in the subscreen you then choose which of the 3 hotkeys to put it on (delete, page down, or end keys). Then from the game screen you can press one of the hotkeys and swap out to that weapon on the fly. I did this because there are 12 weapons and one of the "F1-F12" keys doesn't register during runtime with MMF. The system works well. Usually I'll have a one-handed, two handed, and a projectile weapon set for hots unless I want to use a weapon's secondary aux power for something someplace.

The dirt's easier to see because of you, thanks man I like it much better this way.

All instances of undead in the game can now be OHK'd by the whip.

Also, made a previous minor enemy able to be frozen solid now (30% chance per strike).

But best of all, I finally cleared out my "to do" notes, shown below. This chicken scratch is from about 2-3 weeks' worth of notes for stuff I wanted to change or bug fix. I wish I could make something out of ALL the notes on this thing, that'd be some quilt  Shocked
