I think this is a cool idea, and not in a "fight the system" way, but it would be nice to see an unofficial "games that didn't make the IGF cut but are still worth keeping an eye out for." IGF selects 5 nominations per category and 5 honorable mentions, but there undoubtedly are dozens if not hundreds of other games that are quality titles that just didn't make the cut.

That said, I don't know if I would feel comfortable plugging my entry here after all the bitching I did over IGF, and besides there's really no way to play the game since it's mobile and we haven't really begun to market the game with proper screenshots, trailers, etc. But to anyone who is interested in what my team is working on, we've got a small website up at www.chocoho.com and our Twitter is @Chocomunculus.

I think it's a well intentioned thread and not such a bad idea. I haven't had time to go through any of the IGF entries at all, so it'd be cool to see some interesting stuff posted here, providing people were mature about it.

some of my favorites from the pirate kart were Sos/10.5, Draknek/shitsnake, thecatamites/crimezone, mjau/cubetendo, and Terry Cavanaugh/memrrtiks suashem

would have been cool if the Pirate Kart would have gotten a mention

Each IGF category should have like 20 honorable mentions.

Surprised the Pirate Kart didn't even get an hon. mention for the Nuovo, nevermind anything more - though I didn't contribute to it.

Probably more logistical problems with it than anything else, I would guess. "And one of the entries you're judging is a package of 300+ short-form games".. "Are you fucking serious? Screw that noise, NEXT!"

Pirate Kart.

Yeah but the pirate kart is hundreds of games, and most of them are just experiments thrown in to make the number higher (I sent a couple too).

Each IGF category should have like 20 honorable mentions.

Yeah but then number 21-22-23... would be upset... it's the same.

Once you reach that number you would have weeded out the best ones. Perhaps the games that got suggested by the judges would automatically make the honorable mention list.

But then people who didn't get a single mention would feel like they got ignored/shafted.
I think it's fine as it is, really. I think it would be cool if each of the judges could pick a game they liked that didn't win one of the awards and explain why

Was honestly surprised that Dust: An Elysian Tail didn't even get an honourable mention in the Art nomination. But yeah, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmSAQwbbig8 I like many of the entries that did get nominated, excited to see the winners too!

No, I agree. It's an imperfect system. Just throwing ideas out.

Yup. I admit I can't think of a better solution. But I think some recognition for other worthwhile games involved, especially as the volume of games entered reaches a massive level, would be nice.

All of the entries, along with a brief description and some screenies, are publicly available on the IGF website: http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entries2012.php
