Pfft, who cares if it looks kinda like NGE. That makes me more interested in playing the game already. Looking awesome!

The former color palette feels more like I'm in a dire situation/apocalyptic setting where as the newer one feels more like a sunny stroll through baddie slaying town.  My eyes appreciate the newer colors though.  It would be cool to be able to transition between the two smoothly depending on how much danger the player is in/how well they are doing.  Not sure if that is really possible for you though.

yeah, given that I'd like to see this game running on my ipod I don't know if i can do transitioning between textures, but I think i might just keep both themes and maybe use the brighter / casual one for PvP and the darker one for fighting monsters? or maybe just have it flip back and forth between the themes randomly?

To me that sounds nice.

just finished painting the sky/background, also made a draft logo/title (I can't speak Japanese but my father can, and apparently that says 'equinox' )

I was willing to let it go because of the similar themes and color scheme, but the logo? Really?

Yeah, the logo is a pretty blatant imitation.  In addition to the similar color scheme on the mech and NGE placeholder background.
