Perfect bootleg name for SotC for sure.
In my opinion SNES seems to be the most suited for this. Now just add a Link to the Past style overworld map that you traverse to fight giant sprites that take up a significant portion of the screen and your gold.
Hmm, what about Agro...or Garo though?

I've thought a great deal about where to fit our friendly black horse. I realize that there's just no way to get him working if I want a NES palette + limitations. I'll find some way to get him in the game though.
I recognize that you're right about the SNES, since it has zooming out and mode 7 and all that... but then I think it would be too easy to make. I'm almost positive I can get this working on an NES given my current design plans.
Unfortunately, I gotta go to PAX at the end of the month and there's no way out of my 9-5. I don't think I can get this game done on time.
I'm still finishing it though, even if it takes another month or two.

Need a hand from the fans of SotC. I want the map to be 'fairly close' to the original. Do you think this map works? This is just a generic layout; each square will be a tile in the game. Think of all the walking around you'll have to do! Savour the scenery! Just like the original! I've got our hero walking around on the overworld map. I'll post a prototype when it's done. It's taking me forever, since I use AllegroGL and I'm a newcomer with no pre-written frameworks. --------- On a side-note, a lot of projects on these forums look incredible!

Pretty good! Though the second bridge by the temple confuses me. Did you move the geyser area?

There are two bridges made of rock leading away from the temple over the water, so I'm not sure what you mean.
And as for the geyser area, it's in the same place but probably looks a little weird because of the super-zoom-out overview. I don't think I got it quite right, but I haven't actually finished making the real map yet.

Seriously? I never noticed . I find it difficult to notice large structures when I'm walking on them too. I often feel as if I'm just levitating over yawning chasms.

1- The forums don't have spoiler tags or anyway I could show it and hide it. 2- The map is the LEAST spoiling thing about the game. If I wanted to spoil it I'd describe every colossus in detail and the strategies to beat them.

Nothing you can download yet, but here are some images from the map. Obviously, the screen size is only big enough to hold 16 x 14. So each of these is like... 10 screens or something. This is the top-left part of the world. There are 16 total, which makes for a sleepless week. EDIT: Woah, these are way the hell too big. Showing one, linking the rest: http://www.dreamofwinds.com/soft/
