Hey guys,

As a school assignment I've cooperated with three of my classmates to design and create a proof-of-concept of a puzzle game we called 'Shadowpuppets of Java'.
We're considering developing the full game, which would consume a huge amount of time, so we'd really love to find out what people think of the concept.

I'd appreciate it if you'd take a look at it and let us know what you think about it, so I uploaded a playthrough of our demo on youtube. There's more information in the description there:

Looking forward to hearing from you,

cheers guys, you'd think it has potential to be fully developed and released on a platform like steam?

I think so. I think you guys have a great unique game mechanic and can definitely see it being used in a full length game. Reminds me of the old puzzle adventure games, like "neverhood" and "myst" in some ways. Could even see it on the ipad like "machinarium".

What would be the overall aim of the player if you did fully develop it? What would they be working towards?

Well, considering this was a short-term project so far we haven't really incorporated long-term gameplay into the concept yet. Though there is a hint to a possible story line in which the character is on a journey. In the demo (as you can see in the playthrough) the palace in the background is drawing closer in each level.

Awesome idea. Big fan of silhouette and shadow puppets. Visuals are really nice and gameplay is clever. Will be watching.

I'm going to agree with a cool concept and nice art style (although I would like to see more details, not so great at 480p on youtube, whay not release a 720p or 1080p video)

I'm curious to see how this concept would fare with more complex puzzles. The examples you've shown were pretty simple. I see several pitfalls that you'll have to avoid.
1) the more complex puzzle should not become huge trial and error loops. For example, solving it should come more from thinking about a solution than from finding the exact spot of some stick on the grid.
2) the complex puzzles should also integrate the shadow concept at its core.

That said, I'll definitely keep an eye on this one  Smiley

This is really neat! I like the grid-based constraint on piece positioning. Should help fight finicky pixel-perfect placement and make puzzles more satisfying. I'm looking forward to seeing this develop.

Best ever usage for "shadow theater" style, lol
Looking forward to see more complex puzzles...

Really nice concept and idea! Also, very immersive atmosphere.

1) the more complex puzzle should not become huge trial and error loops. For example, solving it should come more from thinking about a solution than from finding the exact spot of some stick on the grid.
2) the complex puzzles should also integrate the shadow concept at its core.

I completely agree on those two, and I would add:

3) The transition between front and backstage, although nicely done, is a bit slow as it is now, and with complex puzzles could break the game play flow.

Aside from this, good luck and keep up the good work! Gentleman

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. We've decided we want to give it a go and try to develop the game. It'll take a large amount of time though seeing we're going to have to develop the game in our spare time.

Hehe, that sounds familiar. Initially, we literally rotated the camera from one side of the screen to the other with a nice swoosh, which frankly looked awesome. Though it was painstakingly slow so we had to leave it out.
Anyways, we haven't really had alot of time to tweak things to perfection yet, but I'll see to it we might chop a fraction of the time off to make it even smoother Smiley
Thanks again for taking your time to respond.
