Sometimes people will post to threads without reading them and that is unavoidable.

Humans are an adaptive species, and that can be pretty cool sometimes.
However, what coping mechanism inspires people to make games?

Passionately making games is a surrogate activity for the power process.

Humans are an adaptive species, and that can be pretty cool sometimes.
However, what coping mechanism inspires people to make games? Could it be that they were surrounded by a mundane world as a child and wanted to create their own worlds to escape into, or that they see the beauty around them with clarity and try to capture that wonder in games?

Fact: Humans are anything but adaptive.

Fact: Humans are anything but adaptive.

Then why are we the only species that inhabits every biome on Earth?

we can't naturally inhabit every biome on earth, only through the use of technology we can.

I think that's maybe the point he was trying to make?

naturally

What about technology isn't natural? This is probably a stupid debate to get into on an internet forum, but we evolved the ability to use and develop technology, and it's a part of what makes humanity humanity.

Sure, if you threw a naked man into an arctic wasteland he would die pretty quick, but that's not a very natural scenario is it?

It's a relative concept. But I suspect you're looking at the term differently as well.

Adaptiveness stems from a need/desire to adapt. This is what allows us to live in the arctic circle, to cope with natural disasters, and to visit the moon.

But sometimes there isn't any real desire to adapt, and this is where humanity will seem like it's in a rut.

- When was last time you tried something for the first time?
ie, People who are in a rut tend not to be very experimental. I think humanity has become somewhat afraid of trying new things, because the last time we tried ended up with Stalin and a cold war.

- Are you comfortable living with unrealized goals?
ie, People who are in a rut tend not to be very ambitious.

- Have you made any big mistakes lately?
ie, People who are in a rut tend to stick with what they know best.
