Day 32: Yoda. Tried experimenting with more smaller sprites again, but with more detail.

That's really fucking good. There's a few things I'd change here and their like the banding of the highlights to the lineart, but overall it's really well done.

How are you picking colours? I think this is a main part of why they look really good.

Thank you! How do you solve banding when that's where the highlights are supposed to be, or at least where I think they are supposed to be? How are you picking colours? I think this is a main part of why they look really good.
It is mostly luck. Most of my colors are just guesses. For Yoda, the only color I chose to be a certain way was the green highlight. I made it more saturated than I usually would have because it looked dull otherwise. Usually people say not too much saturation, but I think it makes the sprite more vibrant. Day 33: Continuing with the Star Wars theme, here is a Jawa. I don't think it turned out as well as Yoda, but I'm content with it. I tried to do a not so front on view. More like the platformer side sprites where they aren't quite the side. I struggled with the shading on this one especially, so sorry if it doesn't quite make sense.

He could be a bit bigger in size and more exaggerated in proportion. I think that's why Yoda turned out so well - he was nice and chunky.
But it's not bad at all... and I have to say, I'm as impressed as everyone else in this thread with your improvement. I definitely didn't think you would get to where you are in just a month.
Very inspiring, sir.

You've improved that much in a month? In a year, I can't wait to see your stuff.

You've improved that much in a month? In a year, I can't wait to see your stuff. Thanks so much! I have a lot of room to improve still. Though my skills are much better than when I first started, I still have a long way to go. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep on impressing everyone. Day 34: Today was an experiment. I have relied on black outlines so much in the past month. I don't think that it is necessarily a bad thing, as I love black outlines, but I wanted to try making a sprite without a black. This was the result. The colors kind of suck, and I know this, but I was in a hurry because my final project for my Flash class is due tomorrow, and I'm crunching. So, I didn't want to use too much time on pixel art. Sorry if some of the colors don't have enough contrast.

I like it.
Too drunk to analyse in detail but from what I can tell it's pretty good.

Haha. Thanks. Day 35: I kind of like this lack of outline, no face type of sprite. The only problem being that they are hard to read. When you zoom in, like I did when making it, it becomes easier to tell, but at actual size, it is a bit confusing. Let me know what y'all think. I'd appreciate any advice regarding this style of sprite too.

Well, it'd be easier to see if you zoomed it in. It's nice, as far as I can tell. Do you pixel on a white background? I ask because Link's face kind of blends into the background at this size. Perhaps you could try a colored background.

I do pixel on a white background. I didn't want to pixel on a magenta background (The color I use for transparency), so I just went with white.
Is there a certain color that is good to pixel on? I feel like certain colors would affect my color choice in a negative way. However, I don't know much about color, so correct me if I am wrong.

Day 36: I don't feel like this one turned out as well. I felt like there was just a bit too much going on. Too many different colors on one character for it to look good like this. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel as though the previous two turned out. Technically, I think Spike was the best, then Link, and Chrono being the worst of the three. I do like the style though, and I feel it is helping me with shading and such. I'm not perfect, but when I don't have outlines, it becomes necessary to use more accurate shading and colors to differentiate between different parts and give it shape. I'm still horrible when it comes to shading, but it is interesting to think about.

I never really took into account how using a bg colour would effect colour selection. As for me, I use this; It's one of MS Paint's default colours and it's easy on the eyes. I don't think I'd be able to spend hours at a time staring at a white background. My eyes would probably fall out after the first week.

@cynicalsandel - I think Chrono's too wide. Perhaps if you reduce his width by a pixel, it'd look more proportionate. You're right, though, that without outlines, it's difficult to differentiate between areas.
@Kramlack - Interesting color choice.
I didn't really mind which color I used, but yellow, for example, appears to be really close to white, which makes it harder to see on a white background. I like to pixel on a background with a color of (102, 0, 0). I like it.

I like your sprites without outlines much more. They read better and have more character. You've been improving a lot. Keep up the good work
As for me, I usually pick a background color I think will fit nicely with whatever subject I wish to pixel. As the image develops, I might change the background color to better match the subject. If I'm doing resources for a game, I'll usually pixel over a screenshot of the game. Everything tends to have much better visual harmony that way.
