Bobby Kotick (Brad Pitt) is an evil supervillain who has created a device which saps all the creative freedom juice away and turns game developers into dependie slave workers who are obligated to work for his megacorporation or else their soul is shattered and burned automatically in a mainstream of lava, and the show focuses on the wacky dramatic hijinks of Phil Fish (Steve Buscemi) and Edmund McMillen (Kevin Smith) as they work together in a secret underground resistance movement
I'd prefer Ray Wise as Kotick and Michael Cera as Fil Phish.

EDIT: Or better yet, that guy who plays the main villain in Scott Pilgrim (his name escapes me right now) as Phish.

Maybe we should write preliminary scripts and character descriptions of all meaningful indie developers to HBO so that they can make series authentic. I also suggest good summary and wide database of tigs "humor" and jokes to be drawn from. Also, link to the ESB thread.

I think that should either stop the series or make it almost as exaggerated and weird as DavidCaruso wished for.

There is no way that this is going to have a positive effect on the public's view of the indie game dev scene.

It still seems really bizarre to go from documentary about a lesser known sub-culture to making a comedy series based on it.

I would wait for a comment from the Indie Game: the Movie guys before going more crazy.

I mean, Twitter broke because of this? (it's down right now) Tongue

So far, people are mostly just sharing silly jokes or exaggerated worst-case best-case scenarios.

Oh, I know Smiley it's just a curious mix of confusion, amusement, and anger, sometimes from the same people. Also, not just responses here but also on twitter and elsewhere

But I do wonder at what point jibing about it is just veiled concern

Also that guy is named Jason Schwartzmann and he would be perfect

having a concern is very different than "shitting a frothy mix of anger and delight into each others' mouths about it" -- no? or are you saying we aren't even allowed to express concern about it, even if we do so in an emotionally detached or neutral way?

in any case, my only concern is that i feel it won't give the public (who often know nothing about indie games) a good picture of indie game devs, and that "worst case" is one day people will judge indie devs mostly by how they are presented in this show, similar to how people judge most professions by how they are portrayed in tv shows (i.e. stereotyping). but it's hardly avoidable, and there are far worse television stereotypes about other professions (e.g. how television portrays plumbers, for instance)

This cannot happen. It will be horrible. It will be worse than the Big Bang Theory. My life will be ruined.

It will fail because people in the non-indie scene just wouldn't "get" it

Looks like it's going to be a drama in the same vein as Social Network, Moneyball, etc (not a comedy, as reported): https://www.facebook.com/IndieGameTheMovie
