Hey,

Sam Lantinga, the original guy behind SDL took a few months off of active development to persue something or other. Anyways, he's back on the mailing list and very active in developing SDL2.

SDL2 is a permutation on SDL 1.3 that adds a few nice features as well as dropping SDL 1.2 compatibility, thereby removing a good bit of cruft. There is currently a discussion of what should and shouldn't be changed in SDL2, and I'd like to hear what users, or potential users think. Whatever responses I get will be passed onto the mailing list, but there are no revolutionary changes in the pipeline, so it's just for the edification of the SDL development team, as they look towards future compatibility.

Also, if you develop for the Nintendo DS, there is need of a maintainer, I think it would look pretty good on a resume.

I'd like a link or something. It's a bit odd to tell people about something on the Internet without linking to anything. Undecided

Sorry it's mailing list activity.

Things are starting to set already, it looks like SDL is going to be updated to use GPU textures as default surfaces, and the API kept as flexible as possible, to support extension. iOS support is coming along really well now, almost works right out of the box, although I've been using a hacked SDL 1.3 for iOS for about 6 months now. Android is a little sketchy (probably need a bit of troubleshooting), but there are several commercial games running SDL under android.
