I can tell you (as someone who has had a lady shoot a baby at me out of her actual vagina) that this is going to be the most gloriously terrifying game experience of all time.

I salute you! And I hope you can capture the splatter in black + white pixels Shocked

(I'm hesitant to progress further down this chain of thought because the picture that just floated into my head was brandishing a whirling placenta like a flail...)

Thanks.  I didn't really think at any point of having gore in the game.  Hmm.  There hopefully will come a time when I'm in a position to consider the option more seriously though, so hopefully I'll keep your suggestion in mind then.


Updated to-do list (I'm freely allowing it to telescope out, and doing my darndest best not to skip ahead):

firing bullets
implement basic sound effects
helmet dudes
damage animation
health bar
new game title  Wink (under discussion)

transition to boss-screen (the barrier, screen-scroll, &c)

robust killentity function (will take care of bullets/&c)
kill all entities when meet boss

     very buggy/quickly executed biocosm ripoff
     game 3, also quickly executed
     sick panda game, also also quickly executed


The next couple of items on my list should be really easy to implement, thankfully Smiley (the last thing I did was really gross...not a fan of scripting-based stuff)

I think this game now wins simply for the fact you're going to have the ability to shoot fetuses out of a gun.

Small sidestory, but I always thought it would be hilarious and controversial to shoot a fetus/baby from a weapon so this is like a dream come true.

Thanks guys.  Progress is going reasonably well. 

As for platforming ideas, I've implemented some basic baddies, retractable spikes, those lovely disappearing platforms, platforms that you can destroy by shooting that then regenerate (so to get past them, you'll have to shoot them, then to jump at the right time so that when you're above their remains they'll regenerate).  I'm half-inclined to include ladders as well, excepting that it'd involve a fair bit more coding and double the number of player-sprite frames without changing the gameplay too much.  Any other ideas for enemies/platform-types that might work well in a 1D game such as this?

How about platforms that go up and down, or platforms that collapse but regenerate after some time? Ones that jut out of the wall could be neat too.

Hmm...moving platforms might work quite well(also, with my code I don't think I'll have to do anything special to implement them)...I have an idea....

Yay! Bosses are almost sorted (no more real programming to do for them anyway, mainly design(and health bars, I guess...)).  Mainly interface stuff I should try and deal with next.

Anyhow... they expand and retract, I imagine they fire bullets or milk squirts or something... either way, I'm sure it's going to be hilarious.

Okay.  I should have done the interface/title-screen/level-select stuff/password entry stuff/bitmap-font-display before starting the game engine; having to put all of the main game loops in around the code now is going to be awkward (and also isn't going to be an enjoyable task at all).  Ah well: a lesson learned for next time I guess  Roll Eyes
