@Rakugaki-Otoko - I'm going to be an idiot and ask - are these from two separate games, or is this some sort of platformer / shoot-em-up combo? If so, I applaud your creativity. I also like the little miners in the bottom-right pic. Added light-shafts to Soldier Of.

They're all from the same game. though the shoot-em-up stage is secret, and only appears once. Thank you by the way. I love the screenshot you posted! that's right up my alley.

Here's a fight with the cyclops scarab. He detaches his pincers, throws them at you, and regenerates them like a namekian.

Here's what I'm working on, rough at the moment but I've made a lot of progress so far this weekend. Think somewhere along the line I skewed the resolution a tad, so pixels might not be perfectly aligned (people with OCD beware). Feedback always appreciated Are you using normal maps on pixel art? If you are, you're my new hero. I've always wanted to try this. May I ask your process for doing this?

@Indecom - I hope all of that is just 1 game where the gameplay varies lol Coded running and jumping, I'll do some wall jumping soon.

Yup, normals on pixels What part of the process do you want to know about - actually drawing the maps? I just select normalised colours based on the direction I think that pixel would face in 3D. I usually draw out a rough version of something first in colour, then layer a shaded version on top to make it easier to visualise it as a 3D object - then draw normals over it. The images without normals in game are mostly pretty plain, maybe some add in some 'texture' to a surface but remove all traces of directional shading, ambient shading is fine to draw in though.

Thats an animated gif of a tech demo i released a while back for a game i was working on until the cat pissed on my laptop and fried my hard drive. Here's a link to the current demo. I could continue working on it if i decompile my exe, but a lot of stuff would still be lost. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2672238/hyperion%20super%20pre-alpha.zip
