8BitWorldtreesun.netRPG / Adventure / Generated Game InformationWith a game full of randomly generated content, even in it's alpha stage, 8BitWorld has potentially several hours of gameplay. When you create a new game, after designing your personalized character, class, and world, you are put in the world surrounded by hostility. Most mobs (monsters) are passive, even the hostile ones until they get angry. The best thing to do to stay alive is quickly gather wood and explore some caves in search of treasure and equipment. Beware, this game is hard! Save often! There are a lot of different items in the game so anything you find, try and making something with it! Stay tuned for a wiki containing all items, mobs, crafting recipes, and more! Did a ~70min Let's Test! on this, video is unlisted, and uploading, will be up in a 55mins. The link is below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18_C-M0ECcI&feature=youtu.bePoints of criticism... General:1. The game feels very alpha like you have all the tools to make a awesome game from here, but it never goes in the direction of a game. 2. The game has yet to realize it's own goals, you have equipment, but there is no sense of progression as of yet, if progression is clearing dungeons? then have some reward for completely clearing one even if it's just a visual que. If the game is about exploring have different environments with boss/enemies/items etc. 3. After 20-30 mins I was starting to feel like I did everything possible, at 70 mins I was confidant I was right =P if there is hidden content I didn't find it, or if there was a boss/way to expand the world please let me know! I actually felt like I was missing something. Eneimes:1. Except the models and the drops I felt no large difference fighting one thing or another 2. At first I was spamming Left+right click so much that the animation of attacking blended in completely with the enemies attack...which is the same animation. A pulse in a circle around the enemy would give more visual clues or at least a different animation + color of the attak. Or maybe just animate the monster itself on it's attack frame. Combat:1. The Bow is totally over powered considering how common of a drop it is considering gremlins drop more bones than arrows required to kill them 2. It feels really hard to switch weapons using the scroll wheel while aiming to the right or left...while also aiming at a monster on the opposite side. 3. Once I got the bow/good sword etc, I was double clicking and instant killing everything...there is no progress from there, and thus no reason to experiment with combinations Music1. Menu needs sound/music 2. The games music needs to be extended with changes to the melody..as it repeats and often Good things:1. Great set up! good artwork and for the single song it's pretty decent 2. The menus are crisp 3. the stats/classes/character maker are a great touch too!

I really l.ike the look and the sound is nice. The controls felt good and responsive. After a few minutes of playing I felt like I needed the game to give me some kind of goal. I assume this is something that will be implemented in a later version. Anyway keep up the good work, oh nice website are there links to those other games?

@ Pandara: Wow thanks that's really nice of you! In response to your critiques, Gen 1 & 2: Yeah, this is all really just a tech-demo showing off our ideas and some hints on what's to come. The eventual goal of 8BW is to take part in and/or create your own civilization, using the tools you make and find in your adventures. Gen 3: Heh yeah there's not much left to do besides introduce the environment and basic game mechanics. Once we fix all the bugs in the current version we'll start working on adding cool content to play with though! Enemies: Thanks for the input, we hadn't really put much thought into model attacks but we can definitely give it a try, and we'll see if we can make better indicators of attacks and attackers. Combat 1: Hah yeah the bow was really last minute and more of a way for players to survive and explore more easily until we start putting in more content. Combat 2: Hmm do you have any suggestions on a better way to handle it? We actually had a pretty rough time coming up on a cool way to show the hotbar and was hoping we hit it. Combat 3: Yeah this will definitely change with updates, for example eventually we will have monsters that grow in power the further from your spawn point, along with special areas where they are particularly powerful, enough to challenge players of any level. Music: Yeah unfortunately our composer didn't stay for too long and we only managed to get a few songs, once we find another we should have much more variety. Good things: Thanks! We really appreciated all you've done for us, this is really cool of you :D kidchameleon: Thanks, and don't worry about the content once we start rolling out the updates there'll be plenty of stuff to do! Yeah we're all working on a lot of games at treesun, but the only ones with downloads worth showing are 8BW and Ancient, a 3D game that I personally highly recommend trying!

When I recorded the Let's Test! I assumed it was in beta mode, not alpha, my mistake! but it does highlight the troubles I had going through the world and how it felt to be in that world. I really love where this is going and would love love love to do more testing on it as your versions come out.
The ways you can handle that problem (brainstorm)
1. Make weapons into equip through menu only, with 1-4 presets you can make and press 1-4 on the keyboard to select. make use item into the E (or any) button and compress the two item bars into 1 flowing bar with only one mouse scroll wheel function.
2. Keep the double inventory but make the mouse wheel universal to both bars...how do you select items? well you scroll through the items and it'd highlight the items rather than the items moving in their slots, then have pressing a button of your choice LOCK in each choice for you, highlighting over each item after it's locked unlocks/unequips, no items locked = bare hands
PS the video is close to done processing @ youtube(10-20mins remain), it's recorded in 1920x1200 res, then uploaded, so it takes awhile for that HD upload =P
EDIT 2: videos up

Thanks so much for the Let's Test!, we're taking notes of all of your remarks and adding them onto the list of stuff to fix! Sorry you had such a tough time getting used to the controls we're going to also add a bunch of initial hints to the player so this doesn't happen again, cause it's understandably frustrating Also those are great ideas for the HUD and it'll be put in very soon, thanks so much again!

This is coming along well! I love the art style.
Allowing the player to choose their own colors can result in bad bg/fg separation. I gave my orc green/brown clothes, and he doesn't stand out during the "dusk" time of day. Terraria had an interesting way of dealing with this by restricting the color space.
The game runs quite sluggishly on my very fast computer. Is this intended?
Anyway, it looks like you guys still have a lot of work to do - but awesome so far!

Don't be sorry! That's why people test games in the first place, to make them even better and more assessable to players that are new to the world you made =] And I do the videos off listed so only me and people who get the link from me can find them so no worries about anything you may feel touchy about. Oh and um, I didn't know about the music guy I'm a little harsh on the looping track, but it's only going to get more and more positive as you add and improve, it's such a good alpha base

Now that I've put more time into it, I REALLY love this concept, I can't wait to be able to interact with characters and use magic spells! @Pandara_RA! You should really think about doing lets plays or making listed videos about indie games here on TigSource, I really enjoyed watching that video edit: Oh, I found your Testing Center, that's a cool idea too xD

+ honestly, this is one of the best looking games in this style (top down perspective with super small sprites); it looks better than "Realm of the mad god" - I understand this is still in development, but c'mon, is there nothing blocking your path??? you ca go through trees, houses, mountains and pretty much everything
I'm looking forward to play the final version

Hey, nice to see you again. You've disappeared from the face of the earth, it seems like. This game looks fun, I'll download it now and play it after my schoolwork. Then I'll be able to properly critique you.
PS: Nice to see you have formed a little indie outfit. Eager to see what comes of this.

I'm in the early stages of a similiar game for my gradutation project. Do you have a devlog or anything similiar? Would be great to get some pointers on procedural generation and such. Anyway, I like the game!It doesn't feel finished as people mentioned. But this is a great base to work from
