This is probably a stupid question, but what do ranks mean? Is it in terms of how many posts you've made, total logged forum time, or how long you've been a member?

Post count. Alternatively: how alarmingly you need to go outside for some fresh air.

Don't be like me and do it, you'll never come back! Turns out that outside is pretty awesome.

I'll peek in every once in awhile for nostalgic reasons.

Beware the Big Room with the Strong Lamp. Stay here, you don't want to go there. Nothing interesting there anyway.

Rumor has it that once you reach level 10 the Indie Shadow Elite decide whether or not to induct you into their Inner Circle. Once they click an "admin-only" checkbox on your profile page, you'll be able to see the True Levels. The level system you see in place right now is only a placeholder for the True Levels, which is basically a rating system of how cool you are deemed in the eyes of the Indie Shadow Elite aka insiders of this level system. It serves as a quick reference for knowing how to formulate their conversations with us; especially helpful to newcomers to the inner circle, or just serves as a useful reminder to those who can't be concerned with remembering everyone's names.

 Who, Me?

It has been whispered that the scale ranges from -100 to +100, with 0 being the baseline. All new members start out at 0 and then gain positive or negative marks based on their behavior/reputation. People who post within 24 hours of creating their account are automatically docked -5 points. If you lurk too long without posting, you're docked -10 points out of suspicion. Setting your age to a number below 18 will dock you -5 points plus -1 point for every year down.

At -25 points you become eligible for a ban; at -50 you are reviewed by the council and considered for a ban. At -75 you are likely to be perma-banned, but you may be simply "banned" temporarily. At -100 you have reached the nadir of TIGSource infamy, and are hereby perma-banned with your account deleted and IP blocked. If you are seen by the Elites in real life, they will snub you, if not all out attack.

However, there are loop-holes, and I am one of them. My True Level is actually -255, the lowest it can go in their hexidecimal system. Why haven't I been banned, you ask? You see, they need someone to set an example to those who would dare rise against them; a martyr that is strung up and tortured while still alive to serve as a grim reminder. That is why I have been given The Sigil of Jesus Christ; it's actually a code to the elite that I'm not to be banned but tortured for all to see.

So you see, UP_Kevin, this is why I'm telling you all of this. My inside sources leaked the information to me. I have no fear; for I have nothing to lose. They will come soon, for me, and now you. Waste no time in escaping this place; don't even look back... Cool

At +256 there's a sudden bug that paralyses everything and when you get to reset your console you wake up on a world where Bob's Game is a thing.

It's scary how this thread has more replies in one day than the Pastry Panic thread has in a week. Cheesy

Well thanks for letting me know about levelling up ChevyRay, thanks for the horror story phubans, and thanks everyone else for making me feel like what I wrote in this thread was worth talking about.

I'll see you all in the shadows. The outside is scary.

Oh, sorry about that, but in a couple of levels you'll realize that TIGSource isn't about indie game discussion at all. For that you'll want Super Friendship Club, which ironically enough isn't in the least bit about making friends.
