Gameplay is looking nice and difficult. What are you using to make it?

This looks great.  You may want to dial back the fisheye effect on the screen, though - it's a cool effect and all but in a platform game where you need to judge distances carefully I can see it getting old fast.

@Franklins Ghost: Thanks, it's a custom engine written in C++. I'm using DirectX for video/audio/input, but pretty much everything else is my own.

@Paul J: I haven't had any trouble with it myself, but I'll keep that in mind. My expectation is that after a minute or two of playing, you shouldn't even really notice the curvature anymore.

Maybe, adding option to disable this effect would be reasonable step

You know, I'm usually all about the balls hard gameplay and level design, but that "3 balls going back and forth" part at the start just seems like pure frustration.

It's not clear what the timing is, and they don't move smoothly, which makes it difficult to judge.  Also, your guy's hit area is huge.  Might want to make it a bit smaller to increase the margin of error you can get away with.

Pretty much done building the world. Got a few rooms left to populate with hazards and that's about it.

The Screen Curvature effect is awesome!
The gameplay looks v.diff, i'd buy it if it was on xbox (looks like it needs a controller and sofa).

I love the fake CRT effect and the CGA graphics, but I have to agree with Udderdude that the collision detection on the video looks frustratingly unforgiving.

Ahh... the beautiful black, white, cyan, and magenta colour scheme of CGA. My favourite game using CGA is Spy vs Spy: Arctic Antics on DOS.

Well that sucks, apparently the installer is getting flagged as a malicious link for some of my friends. Never had a problem with NSIS installers before...  Concerned

Are they using Chrome? Chrome marks a lot of my games, games I uploaded myself from this exact computer, as malicious all the time. It's a feature that isn't really 100% yet.

If that's not the case, I'm not sure.

Oh, and this looks great. I've been following it for a while and apparently I never posted. Looking forward to giving it a shot when I have some time to sit down with it. Smiley

Yep, it was Chrome (and maybe IE also?). Guess as long as it's a general issue and not specific to this game, I'm okay with it.

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=piratehearts.com

I think it's an issue with Google not having scanned the site, so they warn the user "hey, we don't know this site. The executable you're downloading could be malicious!" The problem with that is that the message is exactly the same as a site that IS marked as malicious.

EDIT: Yeah, I got the message when I downloaded it, but I scanned it and it's not malicious. It's definitely a Chrome issue.

EDIT2:

Oh man that's hard. I'm at 12% and stuck trying to get out of an area with a single guy that looks kinda like a nautilus shooting bouncing projectiles.

The game's feel is great though. The graphics are awesome, the controls are tight. The only issue I had was that I wanted to hold down to keep going down through platforms and it wouldn't let me. Tongue

But holy crap, I can't figure out how to get the majority of these bags.

EDIT3: Grats. You got a mention on Terry Cavanagh's indie games blog. :D
