Not sure where else to put this, but I'm sure a lot of you are interested. Unity made iOS and Android basic editions free, you can pick it up until April 8th at store.unity3d.com Servers are currently overloaded right now however.

It's legit, and yeah, the servers are getting hammered. Heres proof though, I did eventually get through to the store. Pretty awesome all around!

Bleagh. Got through twice, but I got a 500 error upon clicking "add to cart" both times anyway.

Just got as far as clicking checkout after adding the items to the cart. 500 error. Spent around 10 minutes in total. Don't bother for now, folks.
Maybe it'll be doable when the US is in the wee hours of the morning.

Will it still be possible to use the downloaded versions once April 8 passes?

Well, if it's until April 8th, then there isn't really any rush. That's plenty of time.
It really is fantastic news for anyone looking to do some mobile development. Unity is a great platform for prototyping and developing games. The barrier of entry for mobile development was what drove me to look into using Haxe + NME instead. Having to buy a full licence just to get access to the iPhone version was a bit steep. I'm not saying it was unreasonable, but it was a bit of a barrier for smaller developers who haven't gotten their hands on funding.
I'll definitely try this out some time this week.

The servers are good at the moment. Anyone still awake here in the States, and those of the European persuasion can grab their serials now.

Eventually got through the entire process... when I got to the whole "sign in or create an account" I was like... oh god, no..... but fortunately that part of their servers doesn't appear to be nearly that hammered.
