Hi everybody, this is my First actually Flixel Game and I need some Feedback.

It's a runner similar to Canabalt, but Different. It's really simple, W to jump, Hold W to jump Higher and S to Slide. Its Currently in Development so there might be a few bugs.

So I made this with As3 and i used Flixel as a library.

I need a lot of Feedback and what you guys think about it. Gimme a lot of Constructive Criticism.

Play Here

Nice job for a first Flixel game, reminds me of Line Runner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3J546gKoOYE&feature=related

Think the buttons might work better if they were next to each instead though. e.g S,D.

Apparently I'm missing a plugin... What would it be so that I can update it?

It's a pretty simple game, but it's not that bad. I enjoyed it for the couple minutes I played it for.
The graphics are way too simplistic.

I thought the graphics were fine for now, especially the little stick man.
However, i felt like i kept hitting blocks that I thought i'd avoided...is it just me, or is the collision detection maybe a little too fuzzy? in a game like this you're going to need to be able to scrape the edge of the pixels on the boxes you're avoiding, it seemed like maybe the collisions are based on a 'box' around the character so it kept catching the corners of that even though the man himself wasn't touching...?

Yeah the collision is just a bounding box, but i'll add perfect pixel collision.

Good for a first Flixel game  Smiley

There seemed to lot of unavoidable obstacles. Things like jumping over one obstacle inevitably leading to jumping into the next one or having to do an impossible jump right after a slide seemed pretty common. Also the "SCORE" text jumping around on screen was kind of irritating. I suggest fixing its position.

Unavoidable obstacles as you can't really control the jump too good are the main problem I think. Another one is there some collision happens when visually the stick man and the obstacles don't have any contact. I guess you are using some square around the stick-man to detect collision, but you should try to do it more precise, or visually accurate. It happened many times that I thought I was sliding enough as the obstacle was slightly behind but when I got up I lost a life.

This is nothing new. You should try adding features, like a dash to smash through obstacles. Or something something. Still good job on a first game  Smiley

nice, but too hard to play for me.
suggest: you could add "intermediate" goals to reach like "100m to go".... "10m to go"... and then "Level 1 reached", and start over your distance counter.

You shouldn't punish people if they land ontop of the blocks. They don't look different from the surroundings, so why should it?

It's somehow charming, I like the wiggly animation of the character and the game isn't as instantly boring as I would've assumed. The music is quite shallow and repetitive and the collisions somehow sloppy, though. And when you say Up is the key for jumping, I'd expect it to be Up instead of W Wink Besides, I feel Up would work better, you wouldn't have to angle your hand weirdly if you wanted to have fingers on both the jump and slide buttons at the same time like I do.

But yes, polish it a bit or maybe come up with a new gameplay element.

It is an interesting game however it is way too similar to Line Runner. I wouldn't really mind if only the gameplay or only the graphics were similar to Line Runner, however both of them are way too similar to Line Runner. Otherwise, it was fun. I don't think the music was as bad as everyone else is saying. I like how you gave the character lives, something other games in the genre have never done. I didn't find that many unavoidable obstacles, however there were still a few. In the in-game instructions you say "Press up to jump" but you press the w key to jump, not the up key. It was pretty good for a first try at an engine.

Not bad for a first go at an endless runner, though I too was confused by your instruction when you say "up" to jump, when in fact it's "w".

Are the blocks randomly generated?  i don't notice a pattern but that might just be me. Smiley
