About me:

I'm a 32 year old programmer. I have a Masters in Computer Science. My day job is writing C code that trades stocks really quickly for massive profits. I'm really good at math and programming. Really, really, really good.

I have no artistic ability and no game design ability. But I love games and I love coding.

Here's what I want to accomplish:

I want to make a smallish game that we can sell. Something really small that we can polish the heck out of. I want something small enough that we could finish in 2 or 3 months, max.

Here's what I can do:

  • I can write all the code for the game (gameplay, engine, tools, etc.).
  • I can make the game run on iOS/Android/PC/Mac/Linux/Flash/Wii/Xbox/etc.
  • I can develop a press kit and do the marketing.
  • I can get a site up and running to host trailers, news about the game, screenshots, etc.

Here's what I need you to do:

  • Come up with an awesome idea for a simple game!
  • Do all the art and animation.

The split:

We'd split all (any?) profits straight down the middle. 50/50. If we enjoy working with each other, let's crank out more games!

PM me we with a small bio about you and your ideas for the game we can create. Any links to portfolio pieces would be awesome too!

UPDATE: I've found someone to collaborate with. Thanks for all the advice.

i wish you luck but i want to give a warning: no matter how experienced you are as a programmer, i'd warn against believing that you can finish your first game ever in 2-3 months and that what you create would be marketable. i think that's way too much to ask for. it's the equivalent of being really good at spelling and grammar, never having written a story before, but wanting to write, and sell, your first novel in 3 weeks

I'd like to second this opinion.  My buddy and I chose a small game for our first project...2 and a half years later we finally released it.  I thought it might take a maximum of 1.5 years, but was hoping for 9 months to a year...it just takes too much time to get into a groove with another person on your first game.  Not to say that it's impossible for you to show us how it's done, but you'd be surprising a lot of people if you really pull it off the first time within that time frame =)

These two statements seem mutually exclusive. Your scoping seems to have been way off. Binding of Isaac was made in 3-6 months, I believe.

Proposal, MonkeyBone: I know you said you aren't a designer, but if you manage to create something of a casual-ized stock trading game, I'll do all the graphics, write you a story, and plan out all the game around the core trading.

I'm not joking, but dead serious. If you like the idey, PM me and I can shoot you some more thorough concepts.
If not, good look on your search! Smiley

Sent you an email (using the one on your profile) about a potential project that could suit you.

Heres the link to it if you don't use that email anymore or something

While I agree with you, I noticed that the Binding of Isaac was made by someone who had about 15 games to his name.  I don't think you can compare their situation with this one.

the binding of isaac was also made by someone with about 15 years of game development experience! if someone tried to make a game like binding of isaac as their first game, it might take them 5 years or so
